  Deadline: July 1, 2014

VSA presents a unique opportunity for student-artists with disabilities from around the world to display their artwork side-by-side in an online exhibition. Children with disabilities are invited to create a portrait that illustrates themselves in their neighborhood! What makes their neighborhood awesome? Cool houses? Fun neighbors? A great park or playground?

The deadline for submissions is
July 1, 2014.  Parents or educators of children with a disability, ages 5 to 18 years of age, may also submit entries. For information and an application, go to the VSA website.

 Mary Mickels

We were honored to have the very talented Mary Mickels play the violin and sing at our 30th Anniversary Celebration.

She is currently competing in the VSA Young Soloist Competition, a national inclusive arts competition.

Mary recently gave a flawless performance at Sanderson High School and had a particularly inclusive experience. They made accommodations to suit her without singling her out. She was also recently interview live on the Triangle Radio Reading Service.

We wish Mary all the best of luck in her future ventures and look forward to a continued connection with her!
      Making the Effort!

As Raleigh grows, the number of conferences/street festivals using multiple venues is rapidly increasing. Which can make accessibility a trickier item to tackle and we are happy to help anyone who has questions. We are delighted to see that Visual Art Exchange has addressed accessibility on their Ignite Creativity Conference website. This multi-session conference is taking place in the warehouse district on June 6 & 7 and VAE is making every effort to accommodate anyone who would like to join in the action. The weekend will be centered around the business of being an artist. Read all the details and register today!
