Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the Friday community meeting and Saturday workshop held in Asheville this past weekend. There was terrific networking and important information sharing.  Special thanks to our Asheville partners, Jaehn Clare, Chris Larson and Polly Medlicott our presenters, the NC Arts Council, the NC Dept. of Public Instruction and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Yo Soy...Je Suis...I am...My Neighborhood

Children with disabilities are encouraged to create a portrait that illustrates themselves in their neighborhood! What makes their neighborhood awesome? Cool houses? Fun neighbors? A great park or playground? Student-artists are encouraged to illustrate all the important people, places, and landscapes of their local space that shape who they are and who they will be in the future

Deadline to submit: July 1, 2014

Who may submit: Parents or Educators of children with a disability, ages 5 to 18

2014 VSA International Young Soloists - Call for Entries

Now Open! We are now accepting applications for the 2014 VSA International Young Soloists Competition. Entries will be accepted online through the link below. All applications must be submitted for review by Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. No late entries will be accepted.

2014 VSA Playwright Discovery Competition - Call for Scripts

Coming soon! The 2014 VSA Playwright Discovery Competition Call for Scripts will open in early November 2013. Please check back for the 2014 application form and competition guidelines.

ArtFest: Call for Art!
Deadline to Submit: January 21, 2014
Hosted by the Woman's Club of Raleigh

Juried exhibition open to Wake County artist, children and adult, with developmental disabilities. This year's theme is "Life, Liberty and Happiness"

Acceptable Media: 2D (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography), crafts, woodworking, ceramics, glass and mixed media sculptures

Entries will be juried by the Woman's Club of Raleigh on January 27th and winners will be allowed to enter a statewide competition!

Submissions can be dropped off at the Arts Access office January 21 & 22 (505 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, 27605, Suite 206). Please call the office to confirm your drop-off date: 919-833-9919. Special arrangements can be made to pick up artwork by calling Martha Keravuori at 919-833-0200 or 919-906-3003.
We are excited to welcome two new partners to our Audio Description team:
North Carolina Opera
North Carolina Symphony

North Carolina Opera's Sunday, January, 26th 3pm performance of La Boheme will be Audio Described for patrons who are visually impaired.  Tickets can be purchased via the North Carolina Opera website or by calling the box office at 919-782-3850.

North Carolina Sympony's Saturday, January 4th 1pm performance of Carnival of the Animals will be Audio Described for patrons who are visually impaired. Tickets may be purchased via the North Carolina Symphony website or by calling the box office at 919-733-2750. American Sign Language will also be available for this performance.

Volunteer Opportunity:

One of our favorite artists at Arts Access, George in Durham, is in need of some additional support! He is a skilled artist with an MFA in painting. He needs someone to help him with his easel and get his supplies set up so that he can create the art he already has conceptualized in his mind.
