Happy Fall -  One of the best orienteering seasons of the year! But before we get out our cool weather gear there is still just a little more warm weather business.

Number of Clubs Holding National Orienteering Day Events Doubles Since 2011
Thanks to the 36 clubs that held National Orienteering Day events. We are beginning to get great stories from all around the country.  Once you hold your event, don’t forget to send your results to OUSA Secretary Donna Fluegel at

New National Championship Event Just Awarded - OUSA Ultra-Long, Relay and Night-O Champs
OCIN has just been awarded the 2012 OUSA Ultra-long, Relay and Night Orienteering National Championships.  The championships will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio from November 30 – December 2. (Thanksgiving is early this year…November 22nd).  So come to Cincy for one last orienteering A-meet this year.  Rumor has it there is great holiday shopping in the Queen City too!

QOC's Valerie Meyer Wins Prestigious Silva Award
Congratulations to QOC’s Valerie Meyer for winning the 2012 OUSA Silva Award. Valerie was recognized for her years of service at national, regional and local levels in the discipline of starts, finishes and rankings.

Tony Pinkham, Greg Walker and Ken Walker, Sr. received the President’s Award for their leadership of the 2012 Sierra Ski O Festival and World Cup Ski Orienteering event.

Last but not least the following individuals were recognized with Golden Troll awards for their contributions to their clubs: Jay Hann (BAOC), Joel Thomson (LAOC), Mihai Ibanescu (BOK), Bob Putnam (FLO) and Neil Dobbs, (HVO).

2012 North American Orienteering Championships Just Around the Corner
A reminder that the North American Orienteering Championships will be held October 18 – 21 at Delaware Water Gap, PA.  DVOA is the host club.  Visit for more information and to register.

OUSA Elects New Board Members & Officers
At the recent Annual General Meeting, the member clubs of OUSA elected the following individuals to the Board of Directors.  Each member will serve a three-year term.  The Class of 2015 is: Jennifer Flagel (COC), Bob Forgrave (COC), Peter Goodwin (UNO), and Greg Lennon (QOC).

Following the AGM, the board elected the following officers for the 2012-2013 term:  The executive committee is comprised of: President – Peter Goodwin (UNO), Secretary – Donna Fluegel (WCOC), Vice President/ Clubs – Greg Lennon (QOC), Vice President/ Competition – Amy Williams (GAOC) and Vice President/ Finance – Lou Pataki (WCOC).

2012 Orienteering North America Digital Edition Out
For the second consecutive year, Orienteering USA has sent a digital issue of ONA to all of its members.  The advanced copy was sent as a benefit of membership.  And as of now, it is also available on the OUSA Website to everyone. As an OUSA member, feel free to gloat about having had the advance copy as you now share it widely with potential converts to our fine sport.

If You Renew By Check
When you renew your club charter membership or your own membership using a check, PLEASE make the check payable to: Orienteering USA.  Our bank is no longer going to allow checks with other names such as USOF or OUSA to be deposited. Old habits die hard but banks don't like bad habits.
