Orienteering Gifts for that Special SomeoneDiscovering Orienteering
Don’t know what to get your favorite orienteer for Christmas?  We have a lot of great ideas for you. OUSA is offering a great array of holiday items including the popular “Keep Calm and Under Control” and "I {love} Orienteering" items, mountain bike orienteering map holders, the excellent book “Discovering Orienteering” by Bob Turbyfill and Chuck Ferguson as well as a yearbook featuring our 2013 Junior Team and a 2014 Junior Team Calendar. The best part is a portion of all the sales of these items go to support Orienteering USA. The links are below.

If we don’t have what you need, we encourage you to contact one of our orienteering retailer friends including: Berman Orienteering Supply, Go Orienteering and Orienteer.com.

No excuses. Click on any link below and get shopping!  Last Call for the Annual Fund
It’s our final call to give to the annual fund.  Either visit www.orienteeringusa.org and click on “Support Orienteering” or mail the envelope in this month's Orienteering North America magazine.  Remember, donations must be postmarked by December 31, 2013 for you to claim them on your 2013 taxes.

Orienteering Awards Nominations to Close Soon
Who is the best all round orienteer this year? Who is the best Junior? Who is the Comet of the Year – the person who burst onto the orienteering scene, and what is the best team? Send nominations to Peter Goodwin with a paragraph or so about why the person or team deserves the award. The individual awards come with assistance for orienteering travel. Send the nominations by Dec. 22.

Iain Wilson Character Through Competition Award for Juniors - Applications Due Dec. 31
Do you know a junior orienteer with great determination?  Who never quits? Who not only runs their course but also volunteers to pick up controls just to get in extra practice? Then you may want to tell them about the “Iain Wilson Character Through Competition Award”. Iain was an orienteer whose life tragically ended a few years ago. In his memory, two juniors can each win a $1,000 award.

Just go to http://orienteeringusa.org/wilsonaward.  You have until December 31, 2013 to get your entries in.

You Can Help Design Team USA's Uniforms
Team USA will be wearing new uniforms in 2014 and you can help design them.  If you would like a copy of the entry rules, contact Glen. Entries must be submitted by January 19, 2014.

Club News - Insurance Certificates and Charter Forms
The 2014 insurance certificate application forms are online. Just visit www.orienteeringusa.org. We will continue our partnership with broker Loomis & Lapann so the program is the same. (And that’s a good thing.)

Club charter renewal forms have gone out.

Orienteering USA National Relay & Night-O Champions
Congratulations to the DVOA (4 point), OCIN (8 point) and CAOC (12 point) for winning the Orienteering USA National Relay Championships this past weekend near Cincinnati.

In other championship news, in the Orienteering USA National Night Orienteering Championships the M/F 21+ gold medals went to Mattias Erickson and Kathy Bullard both from CAOC.

Thanks to Orienteering Cincinnati for all their hard work

Junior Team News
This February 14-19 a training camp will be held in Arizona open to all advanced orienteers; there will be a special focus on intermediate and advanced juniors. JWOC selection races will take place March 22-24 in California. The March 28-30 Junior training camp in New York will open registration soon. To stay up on all Junior news, subscribe to their newsletter by clicking on http://eepurl.com/GoMi1.

Save on Choice and Hertz During the Holidays
The holidays are just about here and you can still save money with Choice Hotels and Hertz rental cars. Here's the right way to make reservations.

1. Go to http://orienteeringusa.org/discounts
2. Click on the appropriate logo linking you to the company
3. Register on-line

If you go straight to the hotel or the rental facility, you may not get the rate and OUSA will not get any benefit.

To get the Choice Deal, copy the corporate number on the website, then go to the website. Click on the down arrow next to the “best rate”, click on “special rate” and put in the corporate number, press enter and you will see Orienteering USA, then you will get the good rates.

If you have any questions, email Glen.

Erratta

Penny DeMoss (BAOC), 3rd: Sharon Crawford (RMOC).  Congratulations ladies!

Finally, we would like to take a moment to wish you a happy holiday season and to thank you for your participation in our sport.  You are the reason we do what we do.

We’ll see you in the woods ... in 2014.
