It’s our final call to give to the annual fund.  Either visit and click on “Support Orienteering” or mail the envelope in this month's Orienteering North America magazine.  Remember, donations must be postmarked by December 31, 2013 for you to claim them on your 2013 taxes.

Orienteering Awards Nominations to Close Soon
Who is the best all round orienteer this year? Who is the best Junior? Who is the Comet of the Year – the person who burst onto the orienteering scene, and what is the best team? Send nominations to Peter Goodwin with a paragraph or so about why the person or team deserves the award. The individual awards come with assistance for orienteering travel. Send the nominations by Dec. 22.
Iain Wilson Character Through Competition Award for Juniors - Applications Due Dec. 31
Do you know a junior orienteer with great determination?  Who never quits? Who not only runs their course but also volunteers to pick up controls just to get in extra practice? Then you may want to tell them about the “Iain Wilson Character Through Competition Award”. Iain was an orienteer whose life tragically ended a few years ago. In his memory, two juniors can each win a $1,000 award.

You Can Help Design Team USA's Uniforms
Team USA will be wearing new uniforms in 2014 and you can help design them.  If you would like a copy of the entry rules, contact Glen. Entries must be submitted by January 19, 2014.
Club News - Insurance Certificates and Charter Forms
The 2014 insurance certificate application forms are online. Just visit We will continue our partnership with broker Loomis & Lapann so the program is the same. (And that’s a good thing.)

Orienteering USA National Relay & Night-O Champions
Congratulations to the DVOA (4 point), OCIN (8 point) and CAOC (12 point) for winning the Orienteering USA National Relay Championships this past weekend near Cincinnati.

In other championship news, in the Orienteering USA National Night Orienteering Championships the M/F 21+ gold medals went to Mattias Erickson and Kathy Bullard both from CAOC.

Junior Team News
This February 14-19 a training camp will be held in Arizona open to all advanced orienteers; there will be a special focus on intermediate and advanced juniors. JWOC selection races will take place March 22-24 in California. Save on Choice and Hertz During the Holidays
The holidays are just about here and you can still save money with Choice Hotels and Hertz rental cars. Here's the right way to make reservations.

If you go straight to the hotel or the rental facility, you may not get the rate and OUSA will not get any benefit.

To get the Choice Deal, copy the corporate number on the website, then go to the website. Click on the down arrow next to the “best rate”, click on “special rate” and put in the corporate number, press enter and you will see Orienteering USA, then you will get the good rates.

  • April 26 - 27: OUSA Relay and Intercollegiate Championships (DVOA – Fair Hill, MD & Newark, DE)
  • May 30 - June 1: Boggs Mountain A-meet (BAOC – Cobb, CA)

In the last newsletter, we mistakenly left out the top women in the Orienteering USA Ultralong Championships held in October in California.  Congratulations to the top finishers in the F-21+ category. 1st: Carol Ross (Truckee), 2nd. Penny DeMoss (BAOC), 3rd: Sharon Crawford (RMOC).  Congratulations ladies!
