Hope that you all are having a great beginning to the summer! Here is the June edition of the OUSA e-newsletter.

Team USA Ski-O Squad Nets Almost $10,000 in Donations
Led by NEOC’s $6,700 contribution from the highly successful Western Mass 5-Days and BAOC’s contribution from hosting the World Cup Ski-O event, almost $10,000 has been donated to the Ski-O squad for their 2013 World Championships in Kazakhstan.

Team USA Trail-O Squad Competes in World Championships
Team USA participated in the 2012 World Trail Orienteering Championships in Dundee, Scotland.  Top performances for Team USA consisted of: Tempo: Richard Ebright (32nd), Paralympic: David Irving (21st), Open: Richard Ebright (21st) and Team: Ebright, Irving, and Mike Poulsen (13th).  Special congratulations to Richard Ebright who was in 3rd place after Day 1 of the two day competition.

Team USA to Field First MTBO Squad at World Championships
For the first time ever, Team USA is fielding a MTBO squad to compete in the World Championships (WOC). Held this year from August 19 - 25 in Veszprem, Hungary, the mountain bike orienteering (MTBO) world championships will include over 300 riders from 24 nations.

The members of this all-female team are Susan Grandjean (CROC), Rebecca Jensen (COC), and Abra McNair (CROC). All have raced in both USA Cycling MTB competitions as well as in A-meets. And demonstrating another link between the various O'disciplines, Susan (originally a member of CNYO) was on three previous Ski-O squads, most recently in 2009.

MTBO has a fine future in North America, and these athletes are leading the way. While the MTBO effort was too new to be included in the 2012 OUSA budget (which provided significant funding to almost all other teams), if you're a fan of mountain biking and orienteering you can help Team USA and the sport by donating now. Donations made before July 1 will be worth twice as much to the Team thanks to a matching grant from an anonymous donor, so please as a club or personally donate now by clicking this link and selecting "Team USA - Mountain Bike Team" as the program to receive your donation. More is always better, but even if it's just $5, every donation helps!

Championship Challenge Awards 158 Prizes
Congratulations to the 158 orienteers who competed in at least three A-meets between January and May, 2012.  Sharon Crawford (RMOC) and Guy Olsen (HVO) led the way

Call for Award Nominations
The Annual General Meeting of Orienteering USA will be held on Saturday, September 2nd as part of the Western States Orienteering Championships in Laramie, Wyoming. One of the highlights of the day’s (and night’s) activities will be the naming of the recipients of the Silva and Golden Troll Awards. It’s now time for Orienteering USA’s member clubs to determine whom they would like to nominate for these prestigious honors. There are a lot of orienteers giving a lot of themselves to advance orienteering in this country. The Silva and Golden Troll Awards programs are a wonderful way of honoring these people. We hope that you, and other members of your club, take part this year by submitting a nomination for either or both programs.

Please note that the nomination deadline for these awards is Friday, August 10th, 2012. Nominations for the Silva Award go to Jon Nash (jonnash@juno.com) while Golden Troll nominations go to Clare Durand (rules@orienteeringusa.org).
