EDUCATION / OUTREACH
BWC spent time at the Rainbow Dreams Trust Rotary Camp for 30 refugee children. We discussed the reason all animals matter and the concept of animal sentience. We focussed on the plight of the rhino and there was a vigorous Q&A session. After discussion the children delighted in making clay rhinos. Note the clay rhino, with a tiny bird who feeds off the rhino to show symbiosis.
There was also a session a month later, with Rainbow Dreams, with a group of children who are burn victims and HIV+.
The Westerford School Animal Rights group invited BWC to speak to them recently.
Please invite us to your school, group or club, for a complimentary interactive talk.
Our Voices for African Wildlife affiliate, Kenesias, has been active in the Strand, with regular street clean-ups by a youth group, and has initiated a fruit tree planting in the neighbourhood, as our living conditions / surroundings have a direct impact on our world view and on the animals who share our spaces.
"Most of my fellow black Africans - the major Stakeholders of this land, believe that, by littering our streets, inside of public transport like trains and busses, they are actually creating employment. Some believe that it's not the responsibility of children or anyone except the municipality workers to clean up the streets, beaches, trains etc. This way of thinking must be changed!"
Kenesias of VFAW (middle) planted the first tree as part of the Shumane Street Clean-up Campaign project and they are going to plant more trees in July 2019.
This is our 50 second short video clip in memory of all the lives shattered and /or lost in research laboratories in South Africa.
UPDATE - CRUELTY ON SHOP SHELVES
It was brought to our attention after out last newsletter that 'cat boots' were still on the shelves of Plastics Depot PE, and after contact was made, we received confirmation from HQ this was due to miscommunications, they had subsequently been removed from stores and the distribution centre, and that public scrutiny is welcomed. We do ask though, that the public remain vigilant and let us firstname.lastname@example.org if they see any at any store.
It is only through your support that BWC can continue to fight animal exploitation.

COSMETIC TESTING BILL
Parliament hasn't yet set up committees as soon as that process is finalised we can push on with the procedure for having this heard.
Again, we are awaiting parliament committees and information on the people we must meet with, to put an end to animal circuses.
Again, nothing will happen until mid year. We form part of a coalition of organisations working together on this matter.
WORKING GROUPS / COALITIONS / FORUMS
We work with several groups in matters of domestic animal welfare, wild animal exploitation, including but not limited to lion bones, leopard quotas and hunting, fur, the use of animals in medical research and more.
We continue to deal with daily queries regarding all manner of animal exploitation, creating awareness, education, outreach, and working towards a cage free world.
