Julian's Trimester 2 Honor Roll Breakfasts will be Held the Week of April 17 at 8 am in the Julian Commons/Cafeteria.  All students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with no D's or U's, are invited to attend with their parents.  Donations and volunteers are needed for all three grade levels:
  • 8th Grade:  Tuesday, April 17.  Sign up here to volunteer and/or donate baked goods. Contact Denise Roser or Lori McConnell with any questions.
  • 7th Grade:  Thursday, April 19. Sign up here to volunteer and/or donate baked goods. Contact Laura Crawford with any questions.
  • 6th Grade:  Friday, April 20.  Sign up here to volunteer and/or donate baked goods. Contact Sarah Homrok or Grace Macek with any questions.
All kinds of donations are welcome, but items that were particularly popular last time were:   donuts, donut holes, coffee cakes, cinnamon rolls, fruit trays and breads.  Instructions for dropping off your donation are in the sign up links.  If you are able to help set up and serve, please volunteer in the sign-up genius.  Thank you all for your assistance!  
Staff Appreciation Breakfast is Wednesday, May 2.  This is the one morning out of the whole school year that we formally thank our teachers and staff with a celebration breakfast.  We not only need help with serving, but we also need help pre-cooking some items like french toast casseroles, quiches and bacon. The ingredients will be provided. Please sign up here to help or contact Lesa Kiefer if you can help with the cooking. 
Best Buddies Lunch Club this Thursday, April 12.  Students, join the Best Buddies lunch club during your lunch period in Room B109.  Bring your lunch and join in some fun games.
DIVCO Presents, "Our Story, Student Voices Front and Center" at the Live Cafe on Saturday, April 14 from 1-2 pm. Come listen to our Oak Park Middle School Students as they share their personal stories and truths. Opening remarks from D97 Board Member Keecia Broy. Please see flyer for event details.
P.R.I.M.E Tutoring Started Last Week and Runs thru May 24.  New tutees (6th graders) and tutors (8th graders) are always welcome at the start of each session.  Drop by Room B207 on Thursdays at 8 am.  For more information, please click here.  Questions may be directed to Ms. Guarino.
In Case You Missed it Last Week:  Makerspace has Started!  Co-sponsored by D97 and the Oak Park Educational Foundation, this opportunity allows students to utilize the equipment and tools found in the Design Wing.  All projects will be student driven; Mr. Walsh and Mr. Olson are present to provide resources, offer advice and assistance, but will not be telling students what to do.  See the days/times in the calendar on the right.  Note, the Open House Exhibit:  MakerFaire Presentation will be held Thursday, May 24 from 4:30-5:30 pm.  
8th Graders Have Voted!  It's a Glow Party to be Held on Saturday, May 12 from 7-9:30 pm. Student's, dress casual and wear all white/neon in order to GLOW!  Be a part of the Bash Crew and gather a team of 9-10 people to help organize different aspects of the party. Parent volunteers will be needed for each team.  Only Team leaders need to attend Friday meetings at 3:40 pm in the 2nd fl. conference room with dance chair Melanie McQueen and Assistant Principal Carr.  Teams will focus on the following areas: ticket sales/marketing, inside decor, outside decor, balloon duty, food donations and set-up, game stations, registration, security, graffiti wall, entertainment, and clean-up crew.  A sign-up genius will be coming out soon. 7 th Grade Parents/Guardians: There is Still Time to Sign Up for the Washington, D.C, Trip! The cost of the trip is $1,269 per student and the registration is July 22.  If you are thinking about sending your child and are concerned about the cost, please reach out to Janorisè Robinson, Parent Volunteer & Program Leader. There is financial aid available for this trip; don't let the cost deter you.  
Dine Around Town:  Thank you to everyone who participated at March's event at Q-BBQ. We made $208.92! The April Dine Around Town will be at Nando's Peri Peri on Wednesday, April 18.

The Plant Sale to Benefit the New Julian Garden is Now Underway! Hatch Elementary Steel Band will be Hosting a Free Concert by the Northern Illinois University Steel Band at Julian Middle School on Friday, April 27 from 7-8:30 pm. For more details about this event, click here for the flyer.
Registration Open for D97 Summer Music Camp!  Summer music camp focuses on the large group ensembles of Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Chorus. You really need to check this camp out; lots of options for in-district/out-of-district students.  No experience?  Don't worry, our district offers lessons on the ukulele and steel drums.  Please click here for details and registration information. Attention all 6th Graders:  Due to popular demand OPEF recently opened up a few BASE Camps previously reserved for 7th & 8th graders to 6th graders. A complete list of camps newly available to 6th graders is available here. All 5th-8th grade camps take place at Julian this year, so it's a great way for new students to get familiar with the layout of the middle school. Other 6th-8th grade camps also still have spaces available.  Please visit the OPEF website for Base Camp offerings.
Did Spring Break Leave You Rethinking Your Decision to Let Your Jayhawk Fend for Themself this Summer? Many Julian teachers like Mr. Colucci, Ms. Tucker, and Mr. Apostol, as well as OPRF engineering and art teachers, are teaching BASE Camp this summer. Housing Forward is in Need of Travel Sized Toiletries all year long.  If you have any unopened soaps, shampoos, conditioners and other travel items, please have students drop them off in Room C320 or in the mailbox. Questions can be directed to Ms. Saunders.  Thank you for your support!
Time is Running Out to Purchase a 2017/18 Yearbook! Yearbooks can be purchased on the Web Store for $30 or send cash/check (payable to D97) in an envelope labeled with student's first and last name along with grade level. Drop off at C402 or contact Mr. Apostol with any questions.
Imagine OPRF, the community-based team creating a long-term facilities plan for the high school, is holding a series of community feedback sessions as options are considered and refined.  Upcoming dates for tours and community conversations are as follows:  
  • Building Tours: Saturday, April 14,  10:00, 10:15, 10:30, 10:45 am.
  • Building Tours: Monday, April 16, 5:45, 6:00, 6:15 pm. Followed by a community conversation at 7 pm in the South cafeteria.
