Summer is Over

Yes, that’s right! Summer in Chile is Dec. - Feb. Most of our town leaves for the summer, making ministry a little… scrambly.
It is hard to catch people. So Roger turns his thoughts to tasks that require few interruptions, like putting together the uni2hoy website, and while he's at it, a denominational website for all of our churches. Nevertheless, Roger, (in good old Dick Dye style — never forgetting what he is about) keeps tracking towards the goal of organizing training retreats all over Chile, but more importantly having the leaders in these churches follow through with their commitment to their own marriages. My, but he does twiddle his thumbs quite productively! Check out uni2hoy.org
Upcoming retreats and training weekends
The next retreat is March 16-17 with a sister denomination, the Christian Presbyterian Church. The marriage mentor training weekend for this local congregation will be held in our home, something Laura enjoys. Do pray for these leaders as they prepare to tackle one of the greatest needs in our culture. We will be spending several Saturdays with them as they take steps to place their own marriages on solid ground, and then begin ministering to families in the community.
Glimpses of grace
A little bit of encouragement… Roger and I were at an all-day cookout with some longtime friends. The couple hosting it has had marital troubles that Roger helped them wade through. Although not out of the woods yet, Roger and I both noticed that they are smiling at each other, teasing each other in positive ways, and even touching gently, not like snakes, but as if they actually liked each other! We have been praying for a long time for them. My conversations with the woman haven't seemed productive. Roger said that the husband had resolved to love his wife, not expecting her to love him back. Amazing! We keep praying.

Thank you for praying for our family!
Roger’s Parents: Ann Dye is moving independently now after her fall. Several churches pulled together to help, and we are overwhelmed with the hands-on love that Roger’s parents received and are still receiving! (Roger’s parents are holding the sign in the picture.)
Laura's Parents: Laura’s father has struggled with Parkinson's for several years. He was just diagnosed advanced kidney cancer. Laura was able to visit with her parents in January: “The day of their 50th wedding anniversary, it thundered and rained outside all day, but I have not seen Daddy smile that much in years! More than 30 people filed through my parents' home with hugs and warm greetings.”
Covenant Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama, gave us the amazingly generous gift of Laura’s trip home. Someone must have walked through these dark waters of uncertainty for them to make such a gesture. They must know what this feels like and we are so grateful for their kindness.
Deanna’s health: Deanna has had two concussions within two months. The first was from a fall off of a horse while wearing a helmet. The second was from a fall while playing soccer. She has had to slow down her studies in school as well as all physical activity, but from what we can tell she is healing slowly but surely. We have so much to thank God for — that Deanna is ok, and that she has been cared for by so many!
Travel plans: We had planned to travel to the US in May for Deanna's high school graduation, but will be extending that trip to include April, so we can spend some time with Laura’s parents. During that time we will visit a few churches, and Roger will be working on several projects. Skype and email work great from the US too! We plan to be just down the street from Laura's mom and dad for whatever help we may be able to offer.
With thanksgiving,
Roger and Laura Dye
