Nothin' but gratitude!
Deep gratitude to God for the marriage conferences throughout March and April has prepared us for the coming week of what we could call "conferences on steroids." A group from Family Life is coming this week to give three separate conferences. Saturday's conference is called A Day to Remember, then four days of training for church leaders, finishing with an all day conference for pastors and their wives in Santiago.
These conferences cross denominational lines, so the planning has stretched our organizational skills. One contact leads to another, and then to another and then another. How we got to the head Protestant chaplain of the Chilean navy or some of these Pentecostal pastors I am not sure, but it promises to be a full and overflowing group!
So we are going into the chaos — joyful, expectant, and oh so grateful for what we have already seen in the lives of those who shared themselves and their homes with us during the last few months. At our last conference one couple, hesitant to commit, promised to only stay for half of it. After a couple of hours, Laura lamented that they would have to leave. "Oh no. We are staying. We need this." Pray with thanksgiving and gratitude with us!
Some logistical things you might want to bring before the Lord are:
1) Two Reformed denominations were sponsoring the pastors' conference on Saturday, April 20th, but one has backed out so most of the responsibility falls on the one denomination. Pray that all the places will be filled and the workload won't be too much for the churches sponsoring it.
2) The four day training involves a huge time commitment for busy families. Pray that the couples will be able to find babysitters, and others to cover their work and ministry responsibilities in their absence.
3) A couple from West Virginia is coming to help with some of the physical labor of the conferences as well as to pray for us all. Pray with thanksgiving for Daniel and Donna Jarstfer.
4) The conference speakers from Family Life are Leonel and Miriam Motta and Gabe Buchholtz. Pray for them with thanksgiving!
