Shin Kusunoki, Corporate Sr. VPShin Kusunoki
Corporate Senior Vice President and Asset Management Systems Division Manager

Welcome to the April 2012 edition of Newsworthy. We’ve been pretty busy gearing up for the 39th Annual SIFMA Operations Conference taking place May 1-4 in Scottsdale, Ariz. We’re looking forward to discussing pressing industry trends and hearing from our peers about what issues they’re facing at the moment. Stop by our booth #413 if you’ll be at the show!

We would like to encourage you to listen to a recording of our recent Webinar that we hosted with Strategic Insight on the topic of fund distribution in Asia.

IN THIS ISSUE

The discussion focused on key industry trends and issues, including how Asia and emerging markets drive global growth and innovation. We’ve had fantastic turnout, as this topic is quite timely.

NRI and Microgen have recently entered into a strategic alliance to deliver finance and risk management solutions to the Japanese market. NRI is proud to be the exclusive partner in Japan for the Microgen Accounting Hub and Microgen Aptitude, the high-performance enterprise application development platform.

Our most recent research, which you can read about in this newsletter, examines the AIJ scandal and its impact on regulation of investment managers. Another research report looks at how reducing information gathering and analysis costs are important to revitalizing the Japanese securitization market.

Please enjoy your April Newsworthy.

Sincerely,

Special Focus

Webinar Recap–Fund Distribution in Asia: A Growing Role for Asia Fund Managers Globally

Recently, NRI and Strategic Insight partnered to host a Webinar on the topic of fund distribution in Asia. Sadayuki Horie, Senior Researcher at NRI, and Daniel Eriskat, Senior Managing Director, Head of Global Consulting at Strategic Insight, discussed the evolving role of fund managers globally. The growth of mutual funds in Asia, characterized by the highly visible success of international investment firms across the region, is capturing the attention of Japan's asset managers. Some of them are committing greater resources to expanding regionally, but the complexities of distributing funds in Asia remains enormous, especially as investors concentrate and entrust their financial assets to a smaller number of leading providers.

Special 20th Edition Financial Markets Panel

NRI’s Financial Markets Panel conducted its special 20th edition meeting recently. Executive representatives from various firms in the industry, including from The University of Tokyo, Standard and Poor’s, Shinsei Securities and PricewaterhouseCoopers, gathered to discuss and debate timely topics such as central banking in the post-financial crisis era, financial system functions in Japan and major economies, as well as forward-looking issues for central banks in 2012.

The Financial Markets Panel aims to bring together experts in theory and practice and ask them to share their knowledge regarding the latest market trends and theoretical developments and offer their views on financial market policy. NRI publishes the proceedings of the Panel’s meetings in both Japanese and English and distributes them to policymakers, academics, and practitioners, both inside and outside Japan. The Panel’s ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of sound financial policy globally.
