From the Founder of Exposing the ELCA

Not often do you get such a clear picture of God working and His people walking in obedience to Him as you do when you look at the decline and current state of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

This month, the ELCA's The Lutheran magazine came out with a cover story called “The Shrinking Church.” In the article we learn that “Nearly 30 percent of ELCA churches reported an average worship attendance of fewer than 50 people in 2010. From 2003 to 2011, average weekly worship attendance dropped 26 percent. And from 2009 to 2010, ELCA membership decreased 5.9 percent, the sharpest rate of decline among mainline denominations, according to the National Council of Churches.” Based on slow and infrequent updating of individual church records regarding individuals and families who have left their congregations, it is safe to assume that the ELCA membership decline is much higher than is being reported.

Elizabeth Eaton, bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod commented, “Since the inception of the ELCA, we've seen decline every year, and it has accelerated over the last five years . . . It doesn't matter where a congregation is situated, we have congregational decline in every demographic, every geography.'" (read here)

We also learn from Pastor David Barnhart that 692 congregations have left or taken successful votes to leave the ELCA since August 2009Total baptized membership loss to ELCA from these congregations stands at 336,369.” Also,

9/11- 9/12— 41 ELCA congregations closed.

9/10-9/11—31 ELCA congregations closed.

9/09-9/10—41 ELCA congregations closed.

9/11-9/12— 16 ELCA congregations consolidated.

9/10-9/11—12 ELCA congregations consolidated.

9/09-9/10—12 ELCA congregations consolidated. This means at least the same number of congregations ceased to exist.” (read here)

God is calling His people out of the ELCA, and He has used Exposing the ELCA to help do this. Over the last three years we have done our best to inform people of the multifaceted rejection of God and His Truth happening in the denomination. God willing, we will continue. There are still over 9,600 ELCA churches, with millions of members, who need to know the Truth. There are new people, every Sunday, walking into ELCA church buildings not knowing what the denomination believes and supports. The need is still there to help these people. Thank you for your prayers, support and gifts to this much needed ministry.

In Christ,

Dan Skogen

Responding to the ELCA and The Lutheran

After The Lutheran magazine reported that gay weddings will be allowed at the ELCA's Augustana College, Donald Bohlken wrote this comment in response:

“Well, it now appears that this ELCA college has gone beyond the General Assembly's approval of 'blessings' for 'committed' gay and lesbian couples to full-blown marriages! The Bible condemns this, but who cares what the Bible says! Anything goes!

The Bible clearly condemns homosexual behavior as sin. 'Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.' Lev 18:22. 'For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.' Romans 1:26-27. See also Gen 19: 4-8, 15, 24; Lev 20: 13; Deut 23:17; 1 Cor 6:9, 10; 1 Tim 1: 8-11; Jude 1: 6-7.

It is our duty to lovingly point out to homosexuals that this conduct is sin and that the way out of sin is to seek forgiveness through the blood and sacrifice of Christ. 1 Cor. 6: 11. To follow the path. of denying the scripture's teachings, which the ELCA General Assembly and Augustana College has chosen, is to assist homosexuals on a path to hell. 1 Cor. 6: 9-10.

God's law on marriage, as set forth in Genesis 2: 23-24 and affirmed by Jesus Christ at Matthew 19: 4-6, is also clear. It provides that marriage was created exclusively as a union between one man and one woman.” (read here)
