Abrar Syed’s older brother, Azaad, was in remission from liver cancer when he was given an accidental, lethal drug overdose at a hospital in their hometown of Karachi, in Pakistan. In an ultimate act of brotherly love, Syed launched AzaadLabs and set out on a mission to make sure no one else lost a loved one the way he did due to poor care coordination. Syed joins a host of entrepreneurs working to bring the digital health revolution to historically disadvantaged and hard-to-reach populations. We saw over $78M in innovative health funding this week, led by Vida Health, which raised a $30M Series C from GuideWell Mutual Holding Corporation, Teladoc Health, and Workday Ventures. Other rounds included Inbox Health, which raised $4.4M from StartUp Health, Connecticut Innovations, Metropolis Ventures, I2BF Global Ventures, and angel investors.
