Digital Health Leaders and Lawmakers Discuss Data

The brave new world of digital health sure is keeping government regulators on their toes. Over the past few weeks, the FDA has offered up bits of clarity on how it views apps like Apple's HealthKit, genetics startup 23andme and social media for drug and device makers. This week, the FDA and other government officials met with some of the biggest names in the industry - like 23andme’s Anne Wojcicki and Athenahealth's Jonathan Bush - to talk about the future of the sector and the role of regulation. Some of the biggest topics of discussion? Interoperability and patient data sharing. Given all the data collection revelations, privacy is clearly a major concern. But we're excited about the potential for data to personalize, streamline and democratize healthcare.
