“I want to beg you, as much as I can, to be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannont be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” — Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

As this strange, mostly tragic year comes to a close, here are some things I thought were worth sharing:
  1. In Pursuit of Silence continues to screen in select UK theaters - more info at our UK distributor's website here. The U.S. theatrical release via The Cinema Guild has been pushed back to post noisy award season (i.e. Spring 2017). In the meantime, we'll be posting dates for one-off screenings in Italy, France, N. California, Australia, Washington DC, Florida. and more on the website. To be sure you're in the loop, sign up for the film's mailing list.

  2. It's been an awfully noisy year. I hope everyone gets some much needed quiet this holiday season. If you need some help, watch this short video I made of my recent hike in Sierra Madre, CA. I suggest resisting the desire to fast forward through the "slow" parts. :)

  3. If you're still doing holiday shopping, have a look at our online store (new items added) and support us in the process. Thank you.

  4. I recently had a talk with a friend about how despite knowing that our time on this earth is finite we still seem to find a thousand ways to squander our days with meaningless activity. It made me think of this poem I read awhile back called I Have Wasted My Life

  5. I watched a short film called Summoning the Recluse that tells the story of young Chinese forgoing the "prison" of modern life and instead choosing a more ancient way of life. There's a great scene filmed on the peak of a mountain during which one of the subjects shares that the "only Zen you find on tops of mountains is the Zen you bring there" which I thought was a beautiful thought. You can watch the 11-minute film here.

  6. It's rare when I don't sound like a complete imbecile in radio interviews. Here's one I did with Monocle 24 Radio last month while I was in the UK supporting the theatrical opening of In Pursuit of Silence.

  7. Lots of exciting new projects in the works. In the new year we may be seeking support for two new film projects. If you're interested in hearing more about becoming a donor or Executive Producer, please contact us. Here's an interview I did last month with Screen Relish in which I talk a bit about the two films (last question).
Until 2017, thanks for reading and happy holidays.

An still from our new film In Praise of Shadows. Those dark little blobs in the middle are my son and me standing on a bridge over the Thames River in London last month.
