The days are getting longer and summer is almost here! As you gather for picnics and barbeques with family and friends, take a minute to help us create that same sense of community for Washington State foster children, adoptive parents, and the elderly by sharing the vision of Many Lights. In this edition:
Building Hope Lights will take time, which is why we are also working on smaller, more immediate projects to help foster children right now.
In 2011 there were 1,574 foster children waiting to be adopted in Washington alone. Today’s foster children need permanent homes and families, and they need our help in finding them.
Beginning this month, Many Lights is partnering with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Children’s Administration to organize a series of events that will introduce children to prospective parents. On June 9 we hosted a chocolate making party. Children and adults got to know each other and bonded over everyone’s favorite sweet treat. We’re so pleased to share that two permanent family connections may have been made, making the event a great success!

Happy Father’s Day
Did you know a Washington resident invented Father’s Day? Ms. Sonora Smart Dodd created the holiday in honor of her father — a widower who raised six children by himself — and men like him who play such an important role for our children. Sunday, June 17 is Father’s Day but we are thankful every day for all the fathers and father figures who contribute so much to our lives.
The stretch funds have been released and Many Lights received an additional $1,015.75, meaning we exceeded our $10,000 goal! Thanks again to the GiveBIG sponsors and everyone who donated and helped us reach our target.
Together we will build Hope Lights multigenerational community.
