Apply to participate in The Forum’s Fireside Dialogue, Inclusive Excellence in Education Abroad. The event will be offered in conjunction with the 12th Annual Forum Conference in Atlanta in April 2016. It is intended for education abroad professionals seeking to assist the field to meet its diversity goals by focusing on the more encompassing concept of Inclusive Excellence. The Forum’s Fireside Dialogues foster in-depth, collegial discussion that leads to practical solutions that help to advance The Forum and the field as a whole. 

The application deadline is tomorrow, January 15.

Certified Professional Spotlight: Cheryl Lochner-Wright

The Forum is very pleased to announce that Cheryl Lochner-Wright, Study Abroad Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has successfully completed The Forum’s Professional Certification in Education Abroad Program. Ms. Lochner-Wright joins colleagues who have effectively demonstrated the ability to articulate and apply the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad, and a commitment to professional excellence and ethical conduct.

Last Chance to Apply for Special QUIP Opportunity

A specially-funded opportunity is available for member institutions to participate in a Quality Improvement Program (QUIP) review. Selected institutions must commit to complete the QUIP reviews during the 2016 calendar year, and they will pay only a $500 fee and assume no other costs for the reviews, which include peer review site visits.
The deadline to apply is tomorrow, January 15.

12th Annual Conference: Register for Pre- and Post-Conference Workshops

Attending The Forum’s 12th Annual Conference? Don’t forget to register for the pre-conference workshops on Wednesday, April 6. Pre-conference workshop topics include digital storytelling, developing assessment plans, identity and integration, and the Standards of Good Practice. The post-conference workshop, U.S. Legislation Packs a Suitcase: The Clery Act, Title IX, VAWA and Related Obligations for Education Abroad, will be offered on Saturday, April 9.
The 12th Annual Conference, Navigating the Intersections: The Cultures of Education Abroad, will take place in Atlanta, GA, April 6-8, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza. Take advantage of early-bird pricing and register for the conference by January 29.

Be Part of the On-Site Dialogue: The Forum’s 3rd European Conference

The Forum’s European Conferences provide the valuable opportunity for on-site education abroad professionals to dialogue with colleagues from across Europe, sharing ideas, strategies and concerns. Join the dialogue by submitting a session proposal for the 3rd European Conference, Living Change: Education Abroad in 21st Century Europe. The conference will be hosted by CYA (College Year in Athens) in Athens, Greece, October 5-7, 2016.
The deadline to submit proposals is January 29.

Call for Proposals: Beyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management

The Forum is now accepting session proposals for the 7th Annual Standards of Good Practice Institute, Beyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management, to be held at Northwestern University on June 23, 2016. This institute is the field’s signature annual event focusing on the education abroad risk management issues faced by organizations and institutions. Education abroad professionals gather to debrief, train, improve and learn the latest in best practices of education abroad risk management, including regulatory compliance.

The deadline for submitting proposals is February 5.

Education Abroad Positions Report Now Available

The Forum Data Committee announces the release of “Education Abroad Positions: Job Titles and Descriptions,” now available online. As the field of education abroad continues to professionalize, The Forum’s Data Committee has worked to respond to the needs of the membership by collecting and compiling data on the topic of the complexity of the work of education abroad professionals and the titles that they hold. The Data Committee’s efforts have produced this report, which contains baseline position descriptions for common roles within education abroad offices. It is intended as a resource for education abroad professionals and for senior international officers and human resource professionals to streamline and standardize the roles, functions, and expectations of staff in education abroad.
