Visit The Forum at NAFSA

The Forum is pleased to be exhibiting at the NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo again this year to interact with our members, prospective members and constituents. Please stop by booth #2411 to discuss The Forum’s many services and benefits. Membership Dues Invoices

The Forum is in the process of sending invoices for the 2016-17 membership dues. The deadline for payment is July 31, and invoices may be paid during this fiscal year.

For the eighth consecutive year, membership dues are remaining the same without an increase. This is due to the overwhelming success of The Forum as an organization and its efficient, member-focused operations.

If there has been a change in the institutional representative at your institution, or if you wish to add an additional person who should receive a copy of the invoice, please contact Mike Landis by e-mail at or by telephone at 717-245-1031.

If your institution or organization is not currently one of the nearly 800 members of The Forum, please consider joining! If your organization joins, each person at your organization receives the benefits of membership!

Register for the Standards Institute: Beyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management

Institute registrants will have the opportunity to listen to Dr. Stephen Hargarten, Associate Dean in the Office of Global Health at the Medical School of Wisconsin, deliver the morning plenary address at the 7th Annual Standards of Good Practice Institute: Beyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management.
Dr. Hargarten, an emergency physician, is deeply sensitive to the rapidly evolving nexus of education abroad, public health, and public policy. His talk will address the need to include descriptive and analytical epidemiology in risk management in education abroad. Drawing from his vast experience in the field of public health, including work with the Peace Corps and the U.S. State Department, Dr. Hargarten will demonstrate the value of collaboration between risk management and the public health sciences to implement data-driven risk prevention and mitigation strategies as we send our students around the globe.
This Institute, to be held on June 23 at Northwestern University, is the signature annual event focusing on the education abroad risk management issues faced daily by organizations and institutions. This event is limited to 125 participants and there are limited spaces remaining. Don’t miss your chance to register or to secure a sponsorship.

Standards of Good Practice Workshops at Middlebury Institute of International Studies

On June 16, The Forum will host Standards Workshops at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA. The first workshop in the morning is Overview of the Standards of Good Practice and will provide a means to assess and ensure quality in all areas of education abroad programming. The afternoon workshop will focus specifically on Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management (Standard 8) and will provide the tools to assess and improve health and safety protocols. Register for both workshops and save $50!

3rd European Conference in Athens, Greece: Hotel Information Now Available

Early bird registration for The Forum’s 3rd European Conference is open through June 23. The conference, Living Change: Education Abroad in 21st Century Europe, will be held October 5-7, 2016, hosted by CYA (College Year in Athens).
The Forum has secured small blocks of rooms at two hotels. More information is available here.

Host a Forum Workshop at Your Organization!

The Forum seeks Forum member institutions and organizations to host workshops during the 2016-17 academic year.  Hosts may choose from one full-day or two half-day workshops that focus on The Forum’s Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. Host benefits include complimentary workshop registrations, recognition on The Forum’s website and in social media, and bringing high-quality training right to your doorstep. The Forum seeks diverse hosts, both in the U.S. and abroad, from all types of Forum member institutions and organizations. Contact for more information.
