Plenary Speaker Announced for the
10th Annual Standards Institute


The Forum is pleased to announce Scott Duffy, TV/Online Personality and Business Growth Expert, as the plenary speaker for the 10th Annual Standards of Good Practice InstituteBeyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management.
 
Scott Duffy began his career working for best-selling author and speaker, Tony Robbins, and went on to work for several small businesses that became big media brands like CBS Sportsline, NBC Internet, and FOXSports.com. Next, he founded Smart Charter, an online booking tool for private aviation, which was acquired by Richard Branson’s Virgin Group. Today, Scott is a champion for entrepreneurship. He has been listed as a “Top 10 Keynote Speaker” by Entrepreneur. He has spoken at the NYSE and provided commentary in numerous media outlets including CNBC, FOX News, and CBS Radio. He is the Co-Host of “Business & Burgers” and Best-Selling Author of “Breakthrough,” a roadmap for building great companies.
 
Duffy will deliver his Institute plenary address on June 27 at the University of San Francisco. Registration for the Institute will open on February 28.

15th Annual Conference: Broadening the Circle of Education Abroad


Participate in a conference that affirms one of our organization’s foundational principles: to provide a forum where every voice is welcome, and a forum where everyone belongs. Sessions will explore competing priorities and pressing issues in our field today with a special focus on fostering diversity and inclusion. Critical Dialogues held prior to the conference provide opportunities for facilitated discussions on education abroad at community colleges and in the Majority World/Global South.
 
The 15th Annual Conference, Broadening the Circle of Education Abroad, will take place in Denver, CO, March 27-29, 2019. Regular registration rates end February 22.

Conversation with Forum Leadership

 
Join Forum leadership at the Annual Conference for an informal conversation to raise questions or concerns, to advocate for action on particular issues, or to share feedback on initiatives and plans. The Chairs of the Forum Board and Council, Forum President, and members of the Board and Council look forward to a lively discussion about innovative ways to ensure The Forum continues to be a vibrant, member-driven organization and a leading advocate for education abroad. This session will be held on Thursday, March 28 at 8:45 a.m.

Forum Competency Credentials: Make the most of your time in Denver!


Attend two corresponding Standards of Good Practice Workshops on Wednesday, March 27, prior to the start of the 15th Annual Conference, and work towards earning a Forum Competency Credential. Competencies represent more than seat time in a workshop; they demonstrate the ability to articulate and apply specific Standards across a variety of study abroad contexts.

Mental Health Issues in Education Abroad


The Forum will deliver its workshop on Mental Health Issues in Education Abroad on Thursday, March 7, hosted by University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) in Reno, NV. The workshop will give participants the opportunity to review trends in U.S. college mental health with specific focus on high risk behaviors, to identify certain mental health reactions to stress that can be problematic, and to explore philosophical, legal, and practical concerns. Facilitators will discuss models for pre-departure review, lay out appropriate roles to play when concerned about a student’s mental health distress, and provide strategies for managing mental health concerns when they occur.

Just because it isn’t in the news these days doesn’t mean that the threat of Zika has abated. This article provides guidance aimed at travelers headed to tropical places. While the likelihood may be low, the consequences of contracting Zika is quite high.
