Strategic Planning Launched

At its meeting last month The Forum Board launched a new strategic planning process, the result of which will guide The Forum through its next phase of growth and development. A Strategic Planning Team has been formed and will be responsible for coordinating the strategic planning, including scheduling multiple opportunities for the membership to become involved. Critical to this process are the voices, opinions and ideas of The Forum’s broad constituency. According to Board Chair Mary Anne Grant, who is chairing the Strategic Planning Team, “The new strategic plan will ensure that The Forum continues to serve the field in new and creative ways as well as to continue those activities that are appropriate and relevant to maintaining high quality education abroad offerings.”
Please look for announced opportunities for you to engage in this important process in order to share your ideas, concerns, and challenges. Together, we can ensure a strong future for The Forum and for the education abroad field.
The members of the Team represent The Forum Board, Council and Staff:
Mary Anne Grant, ISEP (Board), Chair
Enda Carroll, University College Dublin (Board)
Susan Popko, Santa Clara University (Board)
Nick Gozik, Boston College (Council)
Lorna Stern, Arcadia University (Council)
Natalie Mello (Staff)
Annmarie Whalen (Staff)
In addition, Richard McGourty, an external consultant, will be assisting the Strategic Planning Team by helping to guide it through the process.

Drag Race: Performing Identity in Education Abroad
Wednesday, April 6, 1-5 p.m.
Do education abroad students “perform” culture? How does the idealization of integration push students to perform new identities? Through drag and identity theory, participants will explore costuming, language, mimicry, and passing. Our goal is to encourage a dialogue about integration. Note that participants will be required to dress up as a part of the workshop.

Highlight Your Best Practices: Call for Standards Toolbox Submissions

The Standards Committee is seeking new submissions for the Standards Toolbox to support Standard 5: Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Measures. The committee is specifically looking for internal documents that are not publicly accessible, such as overseas staff training materials, student conduct policies, or case studies that focus on misconduct. These examples are invaluable resources to fellow Forum members looking for best practices and ways to improve upon their own policies and procedures in this area.
