Announcing Standards Institute Plenary Speaker: Dr. Jeffrey McCausland

Announcing the Plenary Speaker for the 6th Annual Standards of Good Practice Institute, Beyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management: Understanding Stress Responses to Improve Emergency Preparedness: Dr. Jeffrey McCausland, national security consultant for CBS television and radio, retired U.S. Army colonel and former dean of academics at the U.S. Army War College.

Leadership in a Media Driven World

Successful leaders are constantly striving to find new and innovative ways to "leverage" the media to communicate their vision, increase their market share, broaden their organization's reach and enhance their reputation. As a leader, you must recognize that you and your organization could come under the media’s microscope at any moment – be it a tragic accident, the hiring of a controversial CEO, a financial crisis, the leak of sensitive information, or an ill-advised "tweet"! At those critical moments in the life of any organization, it is important to realize that the perceptions portrayed by the media are, in fact, reality. The big question is… are you ready for that reality?

Ron Koehn Conference Grant Award

The Forum is pleased to announce Jim Ellis as the recipient of this year’s Ron Koehn Conference Grant Award. The award is given annually to a faculty member or education abroad colleague who has been especially effective in contributing to innovations in education abroad program design. The winner receives a stipend that helps to underwrite the cost of attending the Annual Forum Conference.

Upon winning the award, Ellis said, “It is a real pleasure to have received the Ron Koehn Conference Grant Award for Innovative Education Abroad Programs and I am looking forward to the annual conference this year to be able to share and exchange ideas. Indeed it is a great compliment to receive the award and I only hope that my efforts in the field past, present and future will indeed live up to the work that Ron did to advance the field.”

The Forum has also awarded conference travel grants to four colleagues this year to help defray their costs of participating in the Annual Conference in New Orleans.
