Call for Regional Workshop Hosts
The Forum continues to make its training opportunities more accessible by offering regional workshops around the U.S. and overseas. In anticipation of planning the regional workshop schedule for the 2014-2015 academic year, we are seeking nominations from potential host institutions.
Workshops can be selected from a list of full or half-day options that focus on the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad
. Specific workshops also fulfill part of the curriculum requirements for the Forum's new Professional Certification in Education Abroad Program
, which provides colleagues with essential education and training and certifies that they are able to articulate and apply the Standards of Good Practice
to read the full RFP. To be considered for the 2014-15 academic year, proposals must be submitted by May 15
Standard 8 Workshop: Crafting Emergency Action Plans and Protocols
Wake Forest University will host a full-day Forum workshop, Focus on Standard 8: Crafting Emergency Action Plans and Protocols
, on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. The goal of this workshop is to assist participants in developing custom plans and protocols in accordance with Standard 8 of the Forum's Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad
. The workshop includes interactive exercises, much discussion and an opportunity to critique different aspects of
emergency action protocols. Participants will discuss different aspects of handling common health and safety concerns, and understand how the Standards of Good Practice
support their own program management and goals.
Standards Institute, Workshops and Sponsorships
The Forum’s 5th annual Standards of Good Practice Institute
, "Beyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management,” will be held at the University of Denver in Colorado on June 20, 2014, immediately preceding NACUA's Annual Conference

The Forum will also deliver two half-day workshops at the University of Denver prior to the Institute on Thursday, June 19. The morning workshop
will focus on Standards 4 and 5 of the Standards of Good Practice
: Student Preparation for the Learning Environment Abroad, Returning Student Support, Student Selection and Code of Conduct, and the afternoon workshop
will focus on Standard 8: Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management.

Forum Council: Call for Nominations
The Forum Council invites nominations for election to the Council, the elected body of colleagues that sets the agenda for and carries out many of the Forum’s initiatives that benefit the Forum membership. The position description for Forum Council members is available here
Five positions on the Council are open this year. In seeking nominations, the Council is particularly interested in nominees from underrepresented institutions and demographics including but not limited to nominees from community colleges, non U.S.-based institutions and organizations, young and midcareer professionals, minority-serving institutions, and institutions with diverse student populations.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 23
. The Council Nominations Committee will assemble a slate of candidates and the Forum Council election will be held by e-mail ballot in mid-June.

and to improving education abroad for students. By submitting an application now, your organization may receive complimentary membership
through June 30, 2014. Membership dues for the upcoming academic year (July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015) will be due in mid-August.

Summary of Annual Conference Evaluations
The Forum is pleased to report that its Tenth Annual Conference in San Diego hosted 1,100 attendees from around the world, more than 400 of whom were attending a Forum conference for the first time. U.S. colleagues comprised 85% of the total conference attendance while the other 15% was comprised of colleagues from 30 different countries. The Forum was especially pleased to welcome its Forum members, which accounted for 80% of the total attendance.
Conference evaluations were completed by 363 attendees and they expressed strong satisfaction with the conference:
The 2015 Conference Committee and Forum staff will carefully review the evaluations and use them to plan next year’s conference in New Orleans.
