Early bird registration for The Forum’s 12th Annual Conference is now open! The conference, Navigating the Intersections: The Cultures of Education Abroad, will be held April 6-8, 2016, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, GA.

Institutional Representatives: Did you receive the 2015 State of the Field Survey?


Thank you to those who have already responded to the State of the Field Survey sent earlier this week! We have had an enthusiastic response so far. It is vital that the field of education abroad be fully represented in this data, so your participation is important. If you are your institution or organization’s Institutional Representative and you have not yet received an invitation to participate in the 2015 State of the Field Survey, or if you have any other questions or special circumstances regarding the survey, please contact Amelia Dietrich: dietrica@forumea.org. Members who respond before 5 p.m. EST on November 30 will be entered into a drawing for one complimentary Forum workshop registration for a staff member at their institution/organization.

Professional Certification Accelerated Residency at Texas Christian University


Are you short on time or want to maximize travel funds? The Forum is hosting an Accelerated Residency Program at Texas Christian University, January 20-22, 2016. Professional Certification participants can attend all six Standards of Good Practice Workshops over the course of three days, then return home to complete the Standards Assignments. This is a unique opportunity to learn from and collaborate with colleagues in a focused, intensive program to advance your professional credentials. The application deadline is November 15Scholarships are available.

The October issue of The Forum Focus is now available.

Higher Education Act – Title VI Reauthorization Proposals


The Forum signed letters to the U.S. House and Senate in support of the Coalition for International Education’s Title VI Reauthorization Proposals. The Coalition is recommending a focus on the international and foreign language educational challenges facing the nation, and continuation and improvement of Title VI programs with the bipartisan support they have enjoyed over the decades.

Crafting Emergency Action Plans and Protocols


The Forum will deliver the workshop, Focus on Standard 8: Crafting Emergency Action Plans and Protocols, on Tuesday, November 17, hosted by University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) in Reno, Nevada. The goal of this workshop is to assist participants in developing custom plans and protocols in accordance with Standard 8 of The Forum’s Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. The workshop includes interactive exercises, discussion and an opportunity to create and critique different aspects of emergency action protocols. Participants will discuss common health and safety concerns and learn how the Standards support their own program management and goals.

Standards of Good Practice Workshops in Tampa, FL


Two Forum workshops will be hosted by the University of South Florida on Thursday, December 3. In the morning, join Program Resources, Policies & Procedures (Standards 6 & 7) and receive training on how to align your organization’s policies with available resources. The second Standards workshop will be offered in the afternoon and will focus on Student Learning, Development and Academic Framework (Standards 2 & 3). Participants will engage in a variety of activities and discussions designed to focus on these particular issues. Register for both workshops and save $50!
