The Forum’s Critical Incident Database: Beta-testing Stage
The Forum on Education Abroad is pleased to announce the next stage of development of the Critical Incident Database (CID). The CID is now available for beta-test by members to track critical incidents involving students abroad in advance of the launch of the final version of the CID later this year. Beta-test members will be asked to use the CID to collect and manage essential incident information for their programs and students abroad. In addition, the tool serves as a method for tracking required information on incidents that should be reported for a member’s Annual Security Report as required by the Department of Education in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (the Clery Act). Members wishing to beta-test this new tool are asked to contact Natalie Mello (firstname.lastname@example.org
) directly. Beta-testing will begin Monday January 28, 2013 and will end Friday April 26, 2013. Beta-testers will be asked for feedback regarding the ease of use and usefulness of the tool. That feedback will be used to refine the tool before being made available to members at large in August of 2013.
2013 Institutional and Program Resources Survey
Next week, all Forum members will receive an email invitation to participate in the 2013 Institutional and Program Resources Survey. A project of the working group on Strategic Alliances, Infrastructure and Resources (STAIR), the survey collects further data on education abroad administration (advising and program management) that includes workload, salaries, and job descriptions. The topics being surveyed are critical to understanding current practices in education abroad, and are not addressed by any other organization.
This data collection effort has two parts. Each Institutional Representative will receive a link to survey questions on administrative and management practices at their institution or organization. In addition, every colleague associated with a Forum member institution/organization will receive a link to another set of questions, which gather information about individual workload and job descriptions. The Forum will analyze the data gathered and share preliminary results at the Forum’s annual conference in Chicago in April, 2013. The data will also be used by the Forum Standards, Outcomes, and Data committees as they continue to develop resources for members.
