13th Annual Forum Conference: Call for Proposals

The Forum is pleased to announce the theme of its 13th Annual Conference: "Creating and Sustaining the Education Abroad Continuum." The conference will be held in Seattle, Washington, March 29-31, 2017.

The Forum’s Thirteenth Annual Conference focuses on the student’s education abroad experience.  Ideally, the education abroad experience is a continuum that begins long before the student arrives in the host country and carries on after his or her return, integrating the academic and experiential, supported by fair policies and ethical programming. While this ideal of a continuum may not be the reality for all students, education abroad can take practical steps toward achieving it. Read the full Call for Proposals.

Session proposals are now being accepted via an online form. The deadline to submit is August 19, 2016.

It’s Never Too Early to Think Big

The Big Think is a popular annual conference feature that inspires open dialogue about a book from outside - but relevant to - education abroad, challenging education abroad professionals to think beyond their own field.

For this year’s selection, we’d like to crowd-source Big Think options. Suggested titles should address an issue of interest to a range of Forum members, not require specialist knowledge to be understood, be of a manageable length, and be affordable and easily purchased online or in stores.

Get Inspired and Be Inspiring: Visit The Curriculum Toolbox to Share Innovative Ideas in Education Abroad Curriculum Design

The Curriculum Toolbox (which replaces the Curriculum Cooperative) features syllabi, assignments, and course and program profiles submitted by faculty and practitioners in the field of education abroad, including past winners of the Award for Excellence in Education Abroad Curriculum Design. All contributions are vetted against a rubric based on the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. All new contributions submitted before September 21, 2016 will be considered for this year’s Award for Excellence in Education Abroad Curriculum Design.

Forum Membership Dues

Invoices for the 2016-17 membership dues have been sent to all institutional representatives. The deadline for payment is July 31, and invoices may be paid during this fiscal year. 

If there has been a change in the institutional representative at your institution, or if you wish to add an additional person who should receive a copy of the invoice, please contact Mike Landis by e-mail at or by telephone at 717-245-1031.

Coming Soon: Sponsorships and Exhibit Opportunities for The Forum’s Annual Conference!

Sponsorship, exhibitor, and advertising opportunities will be made available to all Forum members next Thursday, June 23, for the 13th Annual Conference in Seattle, WA. The Conference will be held at the Westin Seattle, March 29-31, 2017.

Sponsorships are an excellent way to show your organization’s support of The Forum’s mission. All sponsors and exhibitors will be recognized in the conference brochure, program and on The Forum website, providing maximum exposure.

Professional Certification Participants Complete Accelerated Residency Program  

This week The Forum welcomed to Dickinson College 35 participants in the Accelerated Residency Program for Professional Certification in Education Abroad. Participants gathered from around the globe to engage in meaningful dialogue through participation in all six Certification workshops. The workshops were facilitated by members of The Forum Trained Facilitator Team. Participants will now be completing the Standards Assignments to demonstrate their knowledge of and ability to apply and articulate the Standards of Good Practice.
The next Accelerated Residency program will be offered October 3-5 in Athens, Greece, prior to The Forum’s European Conference. Application deadline is August 1. For more information about Certification contact

Standards Institute: Beyond the Basics of Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management at Capacity

This Institute, to be held on June 23 at Northwestern University, is the signature annual event focusing on the education abroad risk management issues faced daily by organizations and institutions. The event is at capacity and on-site registrations will not be accepted.
