Standard 8 Workshop at Providence College
The Forum on Education Abroad will host a full-day workshop, Focus on Standard 8: Crafting Emergency Protocols and Procedures
, on Thursday, March 7th at Providence College. This workshop will train participants to assess and improve programs they either operate, or to which they send students, by focusing on issues surrounding health and safety. The goal is to assist participants in developing custom protocols and procedures in accordance with Standard 8 of the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad
. Facilitated by Natalie Mello, the Forum’s Executive Director of Member Services and Training, the workshop will include interactive exercises based on case studies. Participants will discuss different aspects of handling common health and safety concerns, and understand how the Standards of Good Practice

Workshop on Standard 7 in Florence, Italy
On May 9th, the Forum on Education Abroad will host a workshop on Standard 7: Organizational and Program Resources
in Florence, Italy. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the Human Resources and Capital Development in Education Abroad
conference co-hosted by Syracuse University in Florence
and Gonzaga University in Florence
. President and CEO of the Forum, Brian Whalen, will facilitate the workshop and provide a review of the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad
, focusing on Standard 7. Using case studies and the latest data collected by the Forum’s 2013 Institutional and Program Resources Survey, participants will examine current institutional practices in assessing and managing resources. Professionals who may benefit from attending this workshop include resident directors and on-site staff, education abroad coordinators and directors, education abroad advisors, and faculty who lead programs.
