Dr. Nico Jooste to Deliver Plenary Address
at 12th Annual Conference


The Forum is very pleased to announce that Dr. Nico Jooste, Senior Director of the Office for International Education at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), will give the Opening Plenary Address at the 12th Annual Conference in Atlanta. His address will be delivered on Wednesday evening, April 6, followed immediately by the Welcome Reception.
 
Jooste has served as Senior Director of the Office for International Education at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) since July 2000. He was responsible for the development of the Office for International Education at the University as a self-funding entity, and during this time international student numbers grew from 130 to 2300. The University adopted Comprehensive Internationalisation as a strategy and received the first award of the International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA) for Excellence in Comprehensive Internationalisation. Jooste has served in numerous leadership positions of IEASA and is the current President. He is also currently the Editor of the Study South Africa Publication.

Crafting Emergency Action Plans and Protocols


The Forum will deliver the workshop, Focus on Standard 8: Crafting Emergency Action Plans and Protocols, on Monday, October 5 at SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT. The goal of this workshop is to assist participants in developing custom plans and protocols in accordance with Standard 8 of The Forum’s Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. The workshop includes interactive exercises, much discussion and an opportunity to create and critique different aspects of emergency action protocols. Participants will discuss common health and safety concerns and learn how the Standards of Good Practice support their own program management and goals.

Can’t attend the workshop on October 5? Crafting Emergency Action Plans and Protocols will be offered again on Tuesday, November 17, hosted by University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) in Reno, Nevada.

Middlebury C.V. Starr School in France: Meeting the Standards

 



 
 
This month, The Forum highlights the Middlebury C.V. Starr School in France, which received recognition for meeting the Standards of Good Practice for education abroad in 2013.

The Forum invites experienced colleagues to apply to become a member of The Forum Trained Facilitator Team that delivers the Standards of Good Practice workshops. The deadline to apply is September 30.

Standards of Good Practice Workshops in Montclair, NJ


Two Forum workshops will be hosted by Montclair State University on Friday, October 16. In the morning, join Program Resources, Policies & Procedures (Standards 6 & 7) and receive training on how to align your organization’s policies with available resources. The second Standards workshop will be offered in the afternoon and will focus on Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management (Standard 8). Join Kevin Morrison from Macalester College as he leads participants through a variety of activities and discussion designed to focus on these particular issues. Register for both workshops and save $50!
