New Resource: Sexual Misconduct, Education Abroad and Title IX/Clery Act

The Forum is pleased to announce a new resource on Title IX and the Clery Act.

"The Forum Standards Committee charged the working group to create a resource to help the education abroad field understand U.S. federal law with regard to sexual misconduct in the context of the Clery Act and Title IX legislation and evolving federal guidance. Working group members represent two- and four-year U.S. institutions, providers, and international universities; our document deliberately addresses all of these types of institutions. It includes an overview of the law, definitions, resource links, and two supplementary reports. We are indebted to the expertise provided by the many individuals who read and responded to our early drafts and offered helpful feedback. We hope that colleagues will continue to contribute to and strengthen this resource." - Jodi Malmgren, working group chair

This document was finalized just before the Department of Education issued a new Clery Act Handbook on June 23, 2016. The Forum will analyze changes to the Handbook and update this document accordingly.

13th Annual Conference: Session Proposal Deadline One Month Away

The Forum’s 13th Annual Conference, "Creating and Sustaining the Education Abroad Continuum," to be held in Seattle, Washington, March 29-31, 2017, focuses on the student’s education abroad experience.

Ideally, the education abroad experience is a continuum that begins long before the student arrives in the host country and carries on after their return, integrating the academic and experiential, supported by fair policies and ethical programming. While this ideal of a continuum may not be the reality for all students, education abroad can take practical steps toward achieving it.

The deadline to submit session and workshop proposals is August 19, 2016.
