American Council of Learned Societies Public Fellow Joins Forum Staff


The Forum is pleased to welcome this week Amelia Dietrich as its Assistant Director for Digital Resources. In this role, she will help to develop and manage the full range of The Forum’s digital resources, including The Forum – New York Times Digital Resource Center. Dietrich was most recently a research coordinator in Pennsylvania State University’s Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese and holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics and Language Science from Penn State. This year's 22 ACLS Public Fellows will take up two-year assignments at a diverse set of organizations in the government and non-profit sectors. A full list of the 2015 Public Fellows and their placements can be found here. The ACLS Public Fellows program is made possible by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Forum Committee Seeks New Members


The Outcomes Assessment and Research Committee is seeking new members. The Committee supports research on education abroad and makes resources available to assist Forum members in assessing education abroad outcomes. The Committee welcomes colleagues to join and contribute to the work on new resources and publications, the Outcomes Assessment Toolbox, and the annual Undergraduate Research Awards.

Award for Excellence in Education Abroad Curriculum Design: Call for Course Submissions


The Forum’s Award for Excellence in Education Abroad Curriculum Design honors an individual or group of individuals at a Forum member institution or organization for excellence in the design of an education abroad course. All courses submitted to the Curriculum Cooperative by September 15 will be considered for the award. Please share with any colleagues who may be eligible.
 
The Curriculum Cooperative is an online resource center where colleagues from Forum member institutions and organizations share their unique approaches to encouraging student learning abroad. The Cooperative contains education abroad course and program profiles, as well as video and text interviews with faculty and administrators, sample syllabi, and more.

Forum Workshop Offered in Conjunction with IFSA-Butler NAC Conference


The Forum will deliver its full-day workshop, U.S. Legislation Packs a Suitcase: The Clery Act, Title IX, VAWA & Related Obligations for Education Abroad, on Thursday, September 10, immediately before the IFSA-Butler NAC Conference in Indianapolis, IN. Co-sponsored by the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), this workshop will address implications for education abroad as a result of recent federal activity: the Violence Against Women Act effective July 1, 2015; Title IX and the revision to the Handbook for the Clery Act.
