Peter A. Wollitzer Advocacy Award


The Forum’s Peter A. Wollitzer Advocacy Award honors a Forum member who has been remarkably effective in influencing institutions of higher learning to understand and support education abroad through the dissemination of The Forum's goals: standards of good practice, data collection and research, curricular development and academic design, and assessment. The 2017 award will be presented at the 13th Annual Conference in Seattle, WA. Previous winners include Joe Brockington (2016, posthumously), Michael Steinberg (2015), Liam Ó Dochartaigh (2013), Jon Booth (2012), Michael Vande Berg (2012), Susan Pugh (2011), James Langridge (2010), David Larsen (2008), R. Michael Paige (2007), and Peter Wollitzer.
 
The deadline to nominate a deserving colleague for the 2017 Wollitzer Award is Friday, December 16.

The Committee supports research on education abroad and makes resources available to assist Forum members in assessing education abroad outcomes. The Committee welcomes colleagues to join and contribute to their work on new resources and publications, the Outcomes Assessment Toolbox, and the annual Award for Academic Achievement Abroad.

Educating Yourself and Your DACA Students about Potential Changes under the New Administration


Campaign promises made by President-Elect Trump to deport illegal immigrants have led some to fear that DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) students may be denied re-entry if they attempt to return to the U.S. on or after the presidential inauguration on January 20, 2017. Because DACA was established as an executive order, it can be overturned just as quickly with another executive order. Recent reports that certain institutions are urging DACA students currently studying abroad to return to the U.S. before the inauguration may have you wondering what your institution and its DACA students should do.
 
Each institution and individual must ultimately make their own decision as to their plan of action based on their own priorities and assessment of risk. The following resources can help:
