New Clery Handbook Compliance

On June 23, 2016, The Department of Education issued an updated Clery Act Handbook:
https://www2.ed.gov/admins/lead/safety/handbook.pdf

The handbook made significant changes to the requirements of the 2011 Handbook and other Department of Education guidance as applied to overseas study. In many ways, these changes will make Clery Act compliance very challenging for study abroad professionals. The Forum workshop in Dayton will be comprehensively updated to include all changes in the 2016 Handbook and will work through some of Department of Education’s new requirements. Department of Education expects all colleges to be in complete compliance by October 1, 2016, including using their new standards to analyze past data.

You can find details for The U.S. Legislation Packs a Suitcase: The Clery Act, Title IX, VAWA and Related Obligations for Education Abroad workshop, hosted by University of Dayton on August 31st, here: https://forumea.org/event/dayton2016/

13th Annual Forum Conference: Call for Proposals

The Forum’s 13th Annual Conference, "Creating and Sustaining the Education Abroad Continuum," will be held in Seattle, Washington, March 29-31, 2017, focuses on the student’s education abroad experience.

Ideally, the education abroad experience is a continuum that begins long before the student arrives in the host country and carries on after their return, integrating the academic and experiential, supported by fair policies and ethical programming. While this ideal of a continuum may not be the reality for all students, education abroad can take practical steps toward achieving it.

The deadline to submit session and workshop proposals is August 19, 2016.
