That’s the Tea, Shoes

AriZona Iced Tea and Adidas teamed up yesterday, dropping their new collab line of shoes at a popup in New York City. The shoes, sold for 99 cents, featured AriZona Iced Tea cherry blossom designs and color palettes on classic Adidas shoe models. The popup actually attracted such a huge crowd that NYPD shut down the whole event, but the shoes, of course, sold out extremely quickly. Maybe you can find a pair online for $400!

America Getting a Raise?

The House passed a bill yesterday raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $15. While it’s unlikely that the bill will pass the Republican-held Senate, there was a significant effort across the aisle to pass the bill, including compromises lengthening the period over which the wage would rise. The US Chamber of Commerce showed support for raising the federal minimum wage in concept, but stated that raising the wage from $7.25 to $15 is too much of a jump. Will the minimum wage change for the first time since 2019?

Global Health Emergency Alert

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has now been declared a global health emergency following the infection of over 2500 people and the death of nearly 1700 people. Officials are also dismayed by the persistence of the epidemic even with the extensive use of a successful vaccine. Having stopped short of declaring such an epidemic during the first three outbreaks, it was a four-strikes-and-you’re-out type of situation this time around for the deadly virus, and is only the fourth time such a declaration has been made, following the pandemic influenza in 2009, the polio resurgence and Ebola epidemic in 2014, and the Zika virus epidemic in 2016.

A glimpse into the future? The newest viral challenge, called the FaceApp Challenge, is making its rounds. Celebrities and internet dwellers alike are participating in the challenge, using the an app called FaceApp to see what their face may look like as they age. However, security issues have popped up regarding the possibility that the app could be accessing users’ photos without permission. While researchers showed that these fears were unfounded, the Democratic National Committee advised presidential candidates against using the app.

He has no won stages at all three Grand Tours, having previously won at the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana. All three men finished the twelfth stage with a time of four hours, fifty-seven minutes, and fifty-three seconds, with a slew of cyclists just a minute and twenty-eight seconds behind them.

Story of Revenge?

An arsonist set fire to Japan’s Kyoto Animation company building, leaving thirty-three people dead and many more injured. Local media reports said a man was seen inside the building spraying a flammable liquid, shouting, “Die!” and then igniting the fluid. The man is now in custody. Around seventy people were inside the building at the time of the blaze. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe led an outpouring of public grief and sympathy, and other animation studios as well as public figures have reached out to offer their condolences.
