NEWS BYTES FROM OUR CHAMBER FORUMS

Bank of England
Agents’ summary of business conditions 2015 Q3

  • Activity had generally grown solidly on a year earlier, with contacts attributing increased demand to rises in real incomes and credit availability. Growth among export-oriented companies had been subdued overall.
  • In property markets, demand for commercial property had increased alongside economic activity, and investment into the sector had remained strong. Housing market activity had picked up by less than many contacts had expected.
  • Recruitment difficulties had increased in recent months, with signs of building pressure on labour cost growth in the service sector. But services price inflation had remained modest and goods prices were lower than a year ago.

Dear Chamber Non Member

Welcome to our fortnightly update and it's good to know that our weekly events continue to hit the mark with you all!

Thursday 30th September we were honoured to be addressed by the former Sunday Times Editor and current Editor of the Rich List  and Schools and Universities Lists at our Richmond's Gaucho overlooking the Thames; he was extremely professional, knowledgeable and perceptive and whist we enjoyed our delicious Argentine steak breakfast and looking onto the Thames bathed in sunshine, he opened our eyes to the wealth behind our local high-street retailers and more generally across our borough; a superb morning with our usual great energy and buzz amongst the cross section of our corporates, start-ups, non profits, SME's and local business people too. Thank you again to the Sunday Times and the Gaucho and all those businesses who love to be part of their local Chamber - this is what makes our Chamber special...pictures copyright Vicki Sharp available at our twitter @chamberrichmond, Facebook https://www.facebook.com/therichmondchamberofcommerce and LinkedIn

Remember if you too are a local retailer or restaurant/hotel, why not enjoy the massive PR and recognition of winning the Best Retailer Award by entering the Best Retailer category atwww.richmondbusinessawards.com and like Real Ale and Kooks Unlimited and others you too could stand out from the crowd and be recognised; you have until 16th October, our final drop dead deadline. Your chances of winning don't stop there - you could win Best Training and Development, Best CSR, Best Innovation or Best Website and even Best Small Business for under £1m turnover or Best Business for more £1m - do have a go! There are 37 chances to win including commended to highly commended to category winner - it is in your hands and just requires you to reply to a few questions on-line at the Awards website and then click send - you will receive an email confirming your entry - so don't delay!  Also do go ahead and book your tables for 10 or seats at our website - tickets are going so if you have entered do book! Use it as an opportunity to network - it really is the business event of the year locally - and combines it with a team building occasion or chance to thank your suppliers, customers or colleagues.

Entrepreneurs gathered for our 3 hours Business Masterclass sponsored by Nat West at the Richmond Adult College/RAAC and Business School Parkshot with the Nat West team and Simon Morden from our Business Skills Forum; the delegates gave excellent feedback and so do come to the next in our series - again at the Business School/RAAC Tuesday 20th with Andreas Voniatis on Digital Marketing. Upcoming events include our Coffee Morning at The American University next Tuesday 10am, our international trade breakfast with UKTI and successful local exporter FT Technologies in Teddington on 22nd October and followed on 3rd November by a Coffee Morning at St Mary's University.

Thanks to Kew Gardens last Thursday for taking the time out to meet with local businesses and to share their science strategy with us and also their fabulous venue - do consider using Kew for meetings large or small; they have superb spaces right across the Gardens. Also do let me know if you or your business wish to engage with Kew and I can make the introductions.

Yesterday's wine tasting event at The Good Wine Shop also enabled businesses to make new introductions with businesses of all types and sizes attending - we were so impressed with the niche character of the wines, spirits and beers inclusive locally produced products presented and without exception I believe we were delighted to purchase their products - thank you too all their team for making us so welcome!

Do book an event or two as you will be amazed how you benefit by building those local relationships ad also you will have an enjoyable time learning more about what is available locally - we never cease to be surprised by our fabulous area of Richmond upon Thames.
Also if you would like to sponsor an event please email us at email@richmondchamebrofcommerce.co.uk
