Reflections Along the Way

From the Desk of Steve Macchia

Dear Rick,
In the midst of the worst summertime drought of the past fifty+ years, Ruth and I tried to grow a new lawn. The grass was planted late spring, on the heels of a recent construction project at our home, but by the end of August it was so filled with weeds that we had to start all over again. The reason? We could not keep up with the need for adequate moisture in the soil, so the seed never really had a chance to establish deep roots.  Instead, all that grew were shallow sprouting weeds which ended up engulfing the lawn and forbidding our grass from any healthy growth. And so it is with our souls…without the much needed moisture and nutrition from God and his Word, our souls remain dry and shallow - and the only thing that grows are weeds.  On October 29, the extended LTI community will gather to consider the ingredients of The Deeper Life and I hope you’ll be able to join us as together we listen to the biblical teachings of Ann Voskamp and Mark Buchanan, and worship the Lord under the prayerful direction of Justin Unger. See you there!
