Welcome to our 2022-23 Season!
After a great tour to eastern Europe we are excited to come back together to play music.
Welcome Debbie and Raja!
We are excited to announce that Debbie Walden will be our Sinfonia Director. Debbie recently retired as the Music Teacher at American Canyon Middle School. She was a Sinfonia Co-Director with NVYS for 10 plus years prior to 2020 and we are so happy she is back! Raja Orr is moving on from Assistant Conductor to our new Bridge Coach. Raja has many exciting ideas and will be incorporating music theory and composition in the program.
Departures
We are sad to say that our Orchestra Manager Jonathen Blue (aka "Blue") will not be returning this season. Blue is now the full time Music Teacher at Napa Christian. We are sorry to see him go but look forward to seeing him in the many community theater productions he is staring in!
We are hiring!
We are looking for an Orchestra Manager. This is a great PT job for someone interested in an introduction to arts management. Please share THIS job description.

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee is 15 people strong representing parents, staff, and musicians, as well as diverse in age, race, ethnicity, and gender. In our second meeting we talked about importance of making NVYS a musical home where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
Our next meeting is September 18th at 3 pm at NVC.
We began our work with Scansion Consulting who engaged a small group of staff, musicians and board members in a EDI feedback session. Next step is an organizational survey asking for your insight into how NVYS approaches Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Look for a survey in your in-box this month!
Thank you to the League of American Orchestra's for our 3-year Catalyst Grant which support our EDI work. More to come!

Important Registration Info for
Napa Valley College
ALL NVYS families should have received an email with registration information for NVC. Here are the highlights:
Our move to Napa Valley College not only gives us a musical home to rehearse, and a world class performance hall to perform in while providing us with greater community visibility and increased academic opportunities for you (our members). With our move, we will now be the orchestra course of record for NVC (Orchestra Repertory Course MUSI-176).
All NVYS students 15 years old and older will have to register for MUSI-176 (for free). Students who are new to NVC will need to apply via the CCC system as well as fill out the NVC application for dual enrollment (HS and NVC) HERE. Students will earn 1 college credit per semester. If you are under 15 years you will not be registered and do not need to do anything at this time.
Parents of 15 year old students and above, you will receive an electronic document you must sign granting your student permission to dual enroll. Please sign this document as soon as possible.
Students, If you have taken a course at NVC in the past please let Shelley know ASAP since you are already in the NVC system. You do not need to register but your parents will receive a dual enrollment form.

HERE is our updated COVID policy
All musicians, staff and volunteers must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Napa Valley College encourages students and the public to wear masks indoors but are not required.
For students 15 and older registered for the course through NVC:
You will receive an email via Cleared4 with instructions to submit proof of vaccination
For students with an exemption, there will be a weekly testing requirement. Note if students miss a weekly test they will be automatically dropped from the class with no waiting period.
For students under 15 in NVYS and Sinfonia
You will need to bring your proof of vaccination to our August 28th rehearsal
For students with an exemption you will need to submit a home test each week 24 hours prior to rehearsal.
