SPEAK UP: LESSONS FROM CAMP
by Judi Rosen, parent of S&T camper

How often do any of us get to learn a life skill?
How many times have you had an idea, but not the tools to express it?

Congratulations Gina Catanzarite (Luminari's Teen Writer! Camp Director)
During a ceremony held on September 24 in Philadelphia, Gina won her 9th Emmy Award (and 26th nomination) for a half-hour documentary she made for WQED Multimedia about teens and their unique sleep issues and related health problems. Her documentary titled “Bedtime Story: The Troubling Truth About Teens & Sleep” was awarded in the Health/Science category at the 2016 Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences/Mid-Atlantic Chapter.
In her acceptance speech, Gina shared a message about the importance of journalism and journalists that really resonates: As journalists, we know the importance of being the “storyteller” in society. But we always have to remember that we wouldn’t have stories to tell if people didn't trust us to tell their personal stories. There’s weight and responsibility in that. It is a privilege to have someone trust you to tell their story accurately, with sensitivity and dignity. For all the people who have trusted me with that privilege, I give my heartfelt thanks. It is because of their trust that I have stories to tell.

Well done, Gina, you are one of the very best storytellers we know!
