Developers cook up something good with Earth APIs.

Pepsi film hits YouTube

On Nov. 18, Pepsi released its original short film, Black Knight Decoded, shot in partnership with UrtheCast. 

“This film is a groundbreaking example of how video of Earth from space can be used for not only scientific pursuits, but for creative ones as well,” explained Scott Larson, UrtheCast’s Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer. 

UrtheCast earns Euroconsult award

UrtheCast was awarded the Euroconsult prize for ‘Strategic Transaction of the Year’, honouring the company's acquisition of Deimos Imaging. The award was presented on Sept. 18 during the 2015 Summit on Earth Observation Business in Paris, as a part of the World Satellite Business Week Event.

 
In the span of five days, the UrtheCast team participated in two hackathons at opposite ends of North America. Hundreds of people were exposed to the UrtheCast Platform and Earth APIs for the first time.

Boats speed to and fro across Vancouver Harbour, a float plane glides past Stanley Park, and cars hustle down the busy streets of downtown Vancouver. This video captured in August of 2015 is an excellent example of how insights can be gained using video from space.

 

Destroyed by ISIS: Syria's Temple of Bel
 
Confirmed by a UN-led analysis of UrtheCast imagery, one of the most culturally significant pieces of ancient architecture was destroyed in August of 2015 by the extremist militant group ISIS. 
 
Mecca, before and after
 
This video of Mecca, captured in the summer of 2015 before a tragic crane collapse, is centered around the city's Grand Mosque. It's here where millions of people congregate for September's Hajj pilgrimage, widely known as the largest annual gathering of people on the planet.


 
Tiananmen Square parade

Commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, China held an immense parade on Sept. 3 in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. It was the largest military parade the country has ever held.
