Sherman Lectures 2015

Jewish Perspectives on Christianity and New Testament Studies. The 2015 Sherman Lectures by Amy-Jill Levine on 'Jesus, Judaism and Christianity: Old Prejudices and New Possibilities' are now available to view online. The lectures are entitled: 1. Jesus in His Jewish Context: The Importance of Recovering History, 2. The Mistakes Jews and Christians Make About Each Other, 3. Is the New Testament Anti-Semitic? and 4. Manchester Teaching Awards 2015

Hebrew and Jewish Studies staff recipients. Following on from the QS World University Rankings for 2015, which placed Manchester's Modern Languages (including Hebrew) as 25th in the world and 3rd in the UK, the Centre would like to congratulate Malka Hodgson (Hebrew), who received the Manchester Teaching Award for Fantastic Feedback, and Alex Samely (Jewish Thought), who received the award for Best Supervision (PGT). British Academy postdoctoral fellowship

New Gaster Project funding. Katharina Keim, who is currently a Rylands Research Associate, has been awarded a three year British Academy postdoctoral fellowship for a project entitled 'The Samaritan Correspondence of Dr Moses Gaster: Texts, Analysis, and Contexts.' Further information.

Public lecture, Woolf Institute, Cambridge

Identities in Israel/Palestine. Moshe Behar contributed to the Muslim-Jewish Studies panel at the Woolf Institute with Esther-Miriam Wagner (Woolf Institute) and Menachem Klein (Bar-Ilan). He spoke on 'Thoughts on Modern Middle Eastern Jewish Thought.' Wed 12 May. Further information.

Public lecture, Oxford University

Reading Midrash Rabba. Ben Williams (John Rylands Research Institute) will give a David Patterson Lecture entitled 'More than one way to read a Midrash: Aaron Hasson and Edward Pococke study Midrash Rabba' at 7.15pm on Mon 18 May at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, Clarendon Institute.
