National Leaders in the Mental Health Aspects
of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Highlights from the 36th Annual NADD Conference
Last week, several members of the START National team presented at the NADD Conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana. Here are a few highlights:
Breakout Session Presentations
  • Andrea Caoili, LCSW, CSS Director of Research and Quality Assurance, Laurie Charlot, PhD, CSS expert consultant, and Dave O’Neal, MS, CSS Project Facilitator, presented a well-attended breakout session entitled, ‘Positive Psychology, IDD and Promoting Mental Wellness’
  • Dr. Laurie Charlot led a breakout session on psychopharmacology with Andrea Caoili, LCSW, offering context regarding the role of START and its focus on promoting best practices in prescribing
  • Dr. L. Jarrett Barnhill, CSS Medical Advisor, presented on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), IDD, and psychopathology
Poster Session
  • During the judged poster presentation session, Andrea Caoili, LCSW and Dr. Charlot presented a research poster entitled, “Mental and Physical Health Conditions of Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) with and without Down Syndrome (DS)”, authored by colleagues Dr. Karen Weigle, CSS Associate Director, Dr. Charlot, and Dr. Calliope Holingue, CSS research partner. CSS was the winner of this session for the second year in a row!
