Now We Have Hope: The Strength of the START Community
"The video was extremely impactful. I loved watching START in action, it is invigorating and emotion provoking to watch what we do on screen."
- START Coordinator
The START Film, produced by award-winning documentary filmmaker Dan Habib, captures the unique and groundbreaking practices and philosophies of the START model. START’s impact is viewed through the perspectives of people receiving START services, family members, and local service providers in Fort Worth, Texas, New York City, and Durham, North Carolina. The film is comprised of three parts, each focusing on a distinct aspect of the START model and the services and supports provided by START programs. All three parts, as well as the full film, are available on the Center for START Services YouTube channel.
As a member of the START Network you have access to all three parts of the START film. Here’s how some of your network partners plan to use it:
  1. Share with program Advisory Councils
  2. Share with community stakeholders, referral sources, and linkage partners
  3. Share with families considering or newly enrolled in START
  4. Share as part of orientation for new START program team members
  5. Share with state departments who support or partner with your program
  6. Share with friends and family to help explain what it is you do every day!
Links to the full film and individual parts are provided below: However you choose to share and use the films, you are encouraged to use the accompanying START Film Discussion Guide that includes:
  • Instructions for the discussion facilitator
  • Glossary of Terms (Positive Psychology & Strengths-Based Practice, Trauma-Informed, & Cultural & Linguistic Competence)
  • General reflection questions
  • Before- & after-viewing discussion prompts for each of the three (3) segments of the film
