President's Message 
'Tis the Season: Six tips for residents on finding a job while staying sane
The job hunting season for those finishing their 3 or 4 year stints as Emergency Medicine residents is in full swing. The security and safety of one’s residency program will soon be gone, and a real, honest-to-goodness full time job will begin. So please allow me the opportunity afforded by the bully pulpit of the President’s Column to offer some words of advice to the residents in their final year of the program.

Ohio's Council Delegation—Your Voice at ACEP Council
On October 12 and 13, ACEP members from all over the country will gather in Seattle for the 2013 ACEP Council meeting, and the Ohio delegation of Councillors and Alternate Councillors will be on hand to represent Ohio ACEP and its members.

Each year, Council meets for two days in conjunction with the College’s annual Scientific Assembly to deliberate and vote on Board of Directors candidates, potential changes to ACEP Bylaws and proposed Resolutions that—if adopted—will guide ACEP initiatives, allocate funds and set policies in the coming years.

Ohio ACEP Meets With Ohio Medicare CGS Medical Director
Ohio ACEP physicians with special interest and expertise in billing, coding and compliance gathered on September 11th with Reimbursement Task Force Chair, Dr. David Chauvin, to meet with Ohio Medicare CGS medical director, Dr. Earl Berman. Participating physicians included Drs. Steven Blaha, Michael Choo, David Chauvin, Hamilton Lempert, John Lyman and Jonathan Siff. Requested by Dr. Berman, this meeting was to initiate a relationship between CGS and Ohio ACEP with a goal to increase CGS-emergency physician communication. [Read more]
The Word Is Out: Ohio ACEP's EM Board Review Is Among the Best Offered Anywhere!
Another successful Emergency Medicine Board Review Course is in the books. We’re proud to report that emergency doctors from all over the country traveled to Columbus to attend the August offering of our acclaimed EM Board Review. 36 states and Puerto Rico were represented, and over 76% of the attendees came from outside Ohio. Emergency physicians from five foreign countries also attended, coming from as far away as Australia!
Ohio ACEP Members Speaking at New Speakers Forum at Scientific Assembly
 Dr. Tom Tallman to Share His Experience with Spinal Injury
On Wednesday, October 16, Ohio ACEP Board Member, Dr. Tom Tallman, will take part in the New Speakers Forum at Scientific Assembly in Seattle. Dr. Tallman’s presentation, “On My Feet Again; Adventures in Spinal Cord Recovery,” is a personal reflection on suffering a spinal cord injury, from recovery and frustration, to therapy and hope. Dr. Tallman's 15-minute talk will happen some time during the 8-11 am block of presenters.
 Dr. Howard Mell to Speak About the Future of EMS
Dr. Howard Mell, Medical Director of the City of Newark, Division of Fire/EMS, will also be presenting at the New Speakers Forum. During his speech, entitled “Ahead of the Cutting Edge in EMS: What Your Paramedics Will Be Using In 5 Years,” Dr. Mell will examine trends, practices and equipment that will soon be standard at many EMS departments across the nation. Dr. Mell's 15-minute presentation will happen some time during the 12:30-2:30 pm block of presenters.

ER Wait Times and ER Visits – ACEP Video
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released data on hospital wait times and has made the information available to the public on their website, where users can search and compare hospital wait times by geographic location and hospital name. Aside from its value to individual patients, the data offers an important look into hospital wait time trends nationwide. Check out ACEP’s great story on the subject.
And here in Ohio, Dr. Michael Argus was quoted in a Cincinnati Business Courier blog post on how Mercy’s Anderson Hospital drastically cut its emergency department wait time.
