In March, we sent our members a brief survey about their impressions of the Medicaid expansion proposal, and we greatly appreciate those that weighed in. [Read more]

Dr. Katz landed the plane and moved on to medicine. [Read more]

National Peds Readiness Project in Ohio

As part of its ongoing quality improvement initiative to ensure emergency departments are fully prepared for pediatric patients, the National Pediatric Readiness Project will be inviting Ohio EDs to participate in the project’s online assessment phase. By participating, EDs will—for the first time—be able to benchmark their readiness against other facilities with similar pediatric patient volumes within their state and the nation.
In May, Emergency Departments across Ohio will receive invitations to participate in the web-based assessment. For more information about the National Pediatric Readiness Project, including how you can get involved, visit

Florida Group Releases 2012 Violence in Hospitals Survey

In response to increasing levels of violence against health care workers, the Florida Hospital Association assembled a taskforce of stakeholder organizations—including the Florida College of Emergency Physicians—to address the growing problem. As part of their work, the Workplace Violence Task Force (WPVTF) conducted and released a survey which collected data about violence in hospital settings.
Last December here in Ohio, the General Assembly passed a bill which increased penalties against those who commit violence against health care workers, including emergency physicians. House Bill 62, which was signed by Gov. Kasich in December, takes effect this month.
