President's Message 

On behalf of Ohio ACEP’s Board of Directors and staff, we hope you had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day. On the day we celebrate all things Irish, I sometimes think about the creature of Irish legend, the leprechaun who, if caught by a human, will grant his captor three wishes.
Unfortunately for me, yet another St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone without sighting a leprechaun, much less catching one. So I guess my three “go-to” wishes will have to wait. I’ll leave two of my wishes for you to guess, but here’s the third: limited liability protection for people providing EMTALA-mandated care and increased access for patients receiving that care.
Sure, it’s nothing extravagant or magical, but it’s something for which we emergency physicians have fought for years. [Read more]

Ohio ACEP’s nationally-recognized Emergency Medicine Board Review course offers a comprehensive review for emergency physicians preparing for the Qualifying exam or ConCert exam. Many physicians take the course for continuous certification (LLSA) or for a review of the core content of emergency medicine.

Ohio ACEP and State Legislators Meet for EM Advocacy Day
The Ohio ACEP EM Advocacy Day was Wednesday, March 13th at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus across from the Ohio Statehouse. Ohio ACEP leaders met with Ohio State Senator Shannon Jones, (Vice Chair of the Senate (Finance) Medicaid Committee and Chair of the Senate Medicaid, Health and Human Services Committee); State Representative Lynn Wachtmann, (Chair of the House Committee on Health & Aging); and Ohio’s only physician in the House, State Representative Dr. Terry Johnson. 2013 Emergency Care Conference
 From February 28 to March 3, Ohio ACEP/ITLS Ohio held its 21st Emergency Care Conference. Attended by over 400 EMS professionals from around the region, the ITLS Ohio Emergency Care Conference continues to enjoy success as Ohio’s Premier Pre-Hospital Education Conference.
Call for Ohio ACEP Board & Councillor Nominations
Interested in a leadership role in Ohio ACEP? Consider submitting your name as a candidate for the Board of Directors or as a Councillor. There are three open seats on the Board of Directors up for election this year. There are also seven available Chapter Council seats to serve at the October ACEP Council Meeting in Seattle.

2013 Opiate Conference: Turning the Tide Together
On April 29 and 30 at the Hyatt Regency Columbus, the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities (OACBHA) will be hosting Ohio’s 2013 Opiate Conference: Turning the Tide Together. US Senator Rob Portman and Chris Jones from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be the keynote speakers.
Webinar on ED Prescribing Guidelines - Registration Now Open
On April 16, the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Injury Prevention Partnership will host a webinar, “Lessons Learned: Implementing Prescribing Guidelines in the Emergency Department.” Registration is now open, and additional information can be found on the event flyer.

Do you know an outstanding resident graduating this calendar year? Nominate them for a Quality Improvement & Patient Safety (QIPS) Resident Quality Award.
