President's Message

Ah, July…that time of the year again. Those of us working in a hospital setting are again reminded that “July is not the month to get sick and be hospitalized”; because this is the time when the newly-minted physicians begin their residencies. I should know whether this actually true (i.e., do more errors and calamitous events really occur in July/August?)…but I don’t. Yet it does make for good water cooler fodder, and my guess is this sentiment will live on whether true or not. 

This first residency year truly is a momentous time; one most of us who have survived the year will remember as “their coming of age.” [Read more]

Pharmacy Board Releases Video to Help ID Rx Drug Diversion

The Ohio State Board of Pharmacy has produced a new video to help identify the warning signs of prescription drug diversion. The video, Red Flags, can be viewed on the Board’s website.

ACEP Announces Chapter Grant Application and Deadlines
Recognizing the important role of ACEP chapters in meeting member needs, educating the public and furthering the advancement of emergency medicine, the ACEP Board of Directors created the Chapter Grant Program to provide financial support for outstanding chapter efforts. If you are interested in working with Ohio ACEP to apply for a 2015 grant, additional information on the program can be found on ACEP’s website, including available funding, a history of previously funded projects, application procedures and deadlines.

ACEP Revises Clinical Policy on Procedural Sedation and Analgesia in the Emergency Department

In the February 2014 issue of the Annals of Emergency Medicine, ACEP published a clinical policy focusing on procedural sedation and analgesia in the emergency department. This is a revision of a 2005 clinical policy with the same name. The revised was accepted for abstraction on the National Guideline Clearinghouse website. [Read more]

ACEP is encouraging its members in Ohio and around the country to submit Resolutions for consideration by ACEP Council, the primary governing body of ACEP. For more information about ACEP Council and a guide to writing and submitting Resolutions, check out ACEP’s website. Resolution submissions are due July 28, 2014!
