The staff and board of Urban Connections have been discussing what to do in light of COVID-19. We are aware of and monitoring communications about COVID-19, and we will do everything we can to follow recommendations of medical professionals and authorities.
The UC House is closed for cleaning this weekend, and for the time being ALL after school activities, Bible studies, and meals are suspended. This includes both children and adult programming.
We do, however, acknowledge that families and children in our community have a great need right now. With school closing for at least three weeks, many families will not have access to their regular source of breakfast and lunch everyday. Isaiah 58 has been the guiding Scripture for UC since the very beginning. And this week, I can't help but lean hard into it.
6 Is not this the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of injustice,
to undo the thongs of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover them,
and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
8 Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your healing shall spring up quickly;
your vindicator shall go before you,
the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am.
We are compelled to press forward, serve those in need, and help where we can. So that is exactly what we are going to do. Beginning Monday, March 16th, we will be packing sack lunches for as many neighborhood kids and families as we can. If you'd like to help, consider donating with the blue button below (it will take you directly to PayPal).
And please, be kind to your neighbors, show mercy where you can, and wash your hands. Feel free to reply to this email if you have questions.
