Lake Harriet Kite Festival- THIS SATURDAY!
New Parking arrangements and Free Shuttle

The Lake Harriet Kite Festival will join Art Shanty Projects on Lake Harriet/Bde Unma on Saturday, January 22 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Bring your own kite or buy one there! This fun, family event organized by Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board with help from LHiNC and East Harriet Neighborhood Association will also feature giant kites, outdoor lawn games, art for kids with MIA and free marshmallow roasting and s’mores. East Harriet will be selling kites as a fundraiser.
New this year: no parking allowed in the bandshell parking lot or on Linden Hills Boulevard between 40th and 43rd Streets. Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will be running a free shuttle from the Calhoun Executive Center parking lot (​​3033 Excelsior Blvd) to the bandshell throughout the event.

Participate in the redistricting process


Dates and times for all remaining meetings on the redrawing City Council and Park & Recreation Board districts are now set. These meetings are all public and can be watched on the City's website, the City's YouTube channel, or on Comcast channels 14 or 799.

After every census, Minneapolis updates the boundaries of its 13 wards and six park districts to reflect new population counts. The Redistricting Group, made up of 24 Minneapolis volunteers, builds the new maps with input from their communities. The Redistricting Group needs your help with the redistricting project to make sure all voices are heard.

The Minneapolis Charter Commission is expected to approve proposed ward and park district maps at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 2. The City Council will vote on proposed voting precincts and polling places based on the new maps at its regular meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10.

COVID-19 vaccinations or negative tests required to enter food or drink establishments

Effective today, Jan. 19, everyone entering an establishment that serves food or drink in Minneapolis must show proof of either being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or having a negative PCR or antigen test taken within three days.

This requirement shall become effective Jan. 26 for any space of public accommodation while holding a ticketed event.

COVID-19 vaccines dramatically reduce the likelihood of serious complications from COVID and have been shown in recent studies to reduce spread by people who don’t have symptoms. Complementing the Jan. 6 requirement for wearing masks in most public places, this emergency regulation aims to protect residents and workers, reduce pressure on hospitals, and help keep schools and businesses open.

Businesses and people covered by the order

This vaccine mandate applies to places that serve food or drink including:

  • Indoor restaurant spaces, coffee shops, cafes within larger spaces (for example, museum cafes, gyms).
  • Bars.
  • Sports venues that serve food or drink for onsite consumption.
  • Entertainment venues such as theaters and bowling alleys that serve food or drink for onsite consumption.
