VSSA Traveling Athlete Workshop Materials and Resources

SSCV Director of Academics Sharon Schmidt and SSCV Academic Coach Merritt Harlan collaborated to develop a VSSA Traveling Athlete Workshop for all VSSA students and their parents which VSSA Head of School Geoff Grimmer kicked off to both students and parents earlier this week.  Below are links to the powerpoint presentation delivered during the workshops and related resources discussed at these workshops.  Parents-ask your child about the recommended 60/20/20 approach for VSSA traveling athletes.
Please click on the hyperlinks below for more information.

Weekly Planner Template

Use of these workshop materials and techniques by VSSA traveling athletes of all ages and travel levels (or some variation of them that best suits the child's organizational habits) will help them to get ahead before travel, minimize what they need to do on the road and enable them to catch up within a few days of return in order to become more self-sufficient in organizing academics alongside athletics.

We hope the above links will be helpful to students in organizing themselves and helpful to parents in guiding your child to keep up with their academics during the competition season.  If you have questions on the above materials please contact Sharon Schmidt, SSCV Director of Academics, at sschmidt@skiclubvail.org.

Grit Study; Student Perseverance and Parenting Practice. Message for parents:
Hello!  I wanted to take a moment to tell you about a research study that I think is worthwhile to participate in.  It is a study on parenting practices and student perseverance.  Researchers at the University of Northern Colorado and Colorado Mesa University are interested in collecting data from parents and children on beliefs and actions related to academics, achieving goals, and self-esteem.  Clicking on the link below will provide you with more information about the study and will allow you to begin filling out the survey (also see the attached flyer).

The link below will take you to two surveys: one for yourself and one for your child to complete.  The surveys should take less than 20 minutes each to complete.  If you choose, you will be entered into a drawing for one of three $50 gift cards in appreciation of your time.

Thank you for supporting educational research by participating in this study.
Click here for the link to the survey. Click here for the flyer.
