SSCV Academic Coach Merritt Harlan and SSCV Academic Director Sharon Schmidt have collaborated to develop two VSSA Traveling Athlete Workshops--
-Student Workshop-Monday, January 9th - VSSA gym during Advisory period
-Parent Workshop-Tuesday, January 10th - 5 pm to 6 pm - VSSA Think Tank
Use of these workshop materials and techniques by VSSA traveling athletes of all ages and travel levels (or some variation of these that best suits the student's organizational habits) will help them to get ahead before travel, minimize what they need to do on the road and enable them to catch up within a few days of return in order to become more self-sufficient in organizing academics alongside athletics.

Grit Study; Student Perseverance and Parenting Practice. Message for parents:
Hello! I wanted to take a moment to tell you about a research study that I think is worthwhile to participate in. It is a study on parenting practices and student perseverance. Researchers at the University of Northern Colorado and Colorado Mesa University are interested in collecting data from parents and children on beliefs and actions related to academics, achieving goals, and self-esteem. Clicking on the link below will provide you with more information about the study and will allow you to begin filling out the survey (also see the attached flyer).
The link below will take you to two surveys: one for yourself and one for your child to complete. The surveys should take less than 20 minutes each to complete. If you choose, you will be entered into a drawing for one of three $50 gift cards in appreciation of your time.
Thank you for supporting educational research by participating in this study.
Click here for the link to the survey. Click here for the flyer.
