Parent's Night September 9th
Save the date! We would love to have all parent's attend from 3pm to 5:30pm. This will be a time to come hear about how to best support your student athlete this school year, meet your students teachers, other parents and community members. Lower School and Upper School will be separated to utilize your time. If you have student's in both, there will be some cross over and we will make sure you get all the information.

In an effort to streamline and lessen impact on families we are cancelling Parent's Day on October 26 and strongly encourage parent's to attend Parent's Night on September 9th.

VSSA Community Service Day September 11th

VSSA started doing a service day three years ago to remember a student that we lost. This year's Community Service Day is to remember those we have lost and we focus on having a positive impact on others and building a more compassionate community.

Students have been divided into small mixed grade service project groups.  All students will meet at VSSA at 8:30am and will then divide into their groups to work until lunch.  All students should have a packed lunch.  Students on the annual meal plan will have a packed lunch provided by Chef. Students who want to utilize their punch pass plan will need to contact Ms. Whitney by September 9th in order to have a packed lunch provided for them.  All students need to bring a water bottle for lunch.  Service projects will include helping local Eagle County residents, local non profit organizations as well as on-site community clean-ups.  The afternoon will be filled with presentations and discussions around putting compassion into action. All students should dress in comfortable clothes that can get dirty, long pants, closed toe shoes, and please bring work gloves and a personal water bottle.

Any parent's able to volunteer between 8am and 1pm would be very helpful! Also if anyone can bring shovels and rakes that would be very helpful as well! Please contact Ms. Whitney with any questions or if you can help. Thank you! Students

Academic Concerns

Grades and 'Academic Concerns' was pulled for the first time this week on Monday. All student-athletes who have lower than 70% in any class will be listed on the 'Academic Concerns List.' Parents, teachers, and coaches will be notified during weeks one, two and three if students are on the list.

Fall Consequences: Any student who lands on "Week 3" at any time in the fall will be off snow starting during Winter Schedule for one day per class. For example, if a student lands on "Week 3" for two weeks in a row will be off snow, in study hall two days in November. If they have two classes for two weeks in a row, they would owe 4 study hall days.

Winter Consequences: At week 3 during the winter season students will be held from on snow training and competitions until all grades are at a 70% or higher.

For more information, refer to the VSSA handbook.

A huge thank you to those parents who have been dropping off and picking up in the bus loop. This is the most secure way for our students to be dropped off. A friendly reminder not to drop off and pick up in the parking lots for your child's safety and please do not drive over the curbed sidewalk to the bus loop at any time.

You may have also noticed new stop signs in and around the VSSA parking lots. These have been placed by Eagle County Schools for the security of the whole VSSA and Maloit Park community.

Information Update for returning ECS students

Forms were mailed this week for returning ECS studentsfor parents to complete the online Information Update which confirms what we have in our data system for demographics, health information and more. Please complete this as soon as possible so we know we have your correct information.

Monday was Individual Picture Day
You can still order pictures via online or I have just a few forms left. FYI when you: Click here to order! there are only 2014 boarders for the pictures. Their web design team will be getting up the 2015 boarders shortly.

VSSA Directories!
VSSA directories will be given in Advisory to every student. Please ask for it so you can have this very vital piece of information at your finger tips.

Being on Time To Class
VSSA prides it self for teaching from "bell to bell" and it is imperative that students are on time to all classes. Be aware that the office pulls "unexcused tardies" each week and Mr. Grimmer meets with students about these tardies. Please be aware that unexpected traffic or something like this is not considered an excused absence even if a parent "excuses" them. Doctor/PT/etc appointments will be excused if there are no other times an appointment can be made. Please try to schedule these outside the school day, or during non core classes such as study hall. VSSA suggests students be early to the start of the day to avoid any lateness. Thank you!

The first PTA meeting of the year is Wednesday, September 16th at 4pm. Location will be announced next week! We'd love to see a big turn out! Any questions you have, please contact PTA President, Jackie DeScisciolo.  Thank you!

Reminder! Take your vacations on the scheduled ECS breaks!

Student-athletes must attend all of their classes unless they have an excused absence. Due to the highly condensed academic programming, families are expected to utilize the designated breaks for family vacations and not extend these designated breaks for vacation. Families that choose to take vacations during school days are compromising their child’s education at VSSA and their student-athlete will be held responsible to complete the assigned work for their courses.
