Zeke Day meets Compassion Now 2014
Here are just pictures from today's activities! The students worked in the morning planting, cleaning up the landscape, river clean up, wall art, the Zeke bench, the outdoor classroom and more! What a great day to celebrate our community! The afternoon the students watched an inspiring movie together. Damnation's majestic cinematography and unexpected discoveries move through rivers and landscapes altered by dams, but also through a metamorphosis in values, from conquest of the natural world to knowing ourselves as part of nature. After the movie students will work in their 4C (Character, Courage, Commitment, Compassion) groups with a question an answer session. The day will culminate with an all school discussion and closing lead by Eco Schools.

Dear Students and Parents,
My name is Sean Roley, an 11th grader at VSSA and I am running the school social media. My job is to put the schools name out there and to get us noticed. Within social media is Instagram, and there are always great photos that you want to get shared. Vail Public Library is proud to announce that their Reading Buddies Program begins the end of this September! This new program pairs trained teen volunteers (grades 7 – 12) with younger children (students in grade 1 – 3) in a shared reading experience. Reading Buddies will meet at the library once a week for eight weeks to read, play games and do reading-related activities together. For the Little Buddies, the program offers a caring teen mentor to support and enhance their reading skills. Although Reading Buddies is not a tutoring service, it is a great opportunity for children to have extra practice reading. Friendships may also be fused while reading together. The Little Buddies application is due September 22, 2014.
Attached is the application. They will be training prospective volunteers on Thursday September 25th. Once your application is in, Cricket will contact you for an interview.
This program is free and open to the public. It will only be possible if we have volunteer support.

While students are out on the tarmac of the Jet Center for most of the day, Street Survival also includes Classroom time that covers the hazards of distracted driving or driving while under the influence of illegal substances. The cost is only $75 per student for the all day session and includes lunch and beverages throughout the day. Teens need to be 16 years of age and have a valid drivers license in order to participate. Advance reservations are required.
