Come hear about the Pros and Cons of taking a PG year. Student and Parent Presentation: Wed. November 9th 3:54-4:50. SSCV Executive Director Kirk Dwyer will be our speaker. The presentation will take place in the Art Room. All parents and students welcome.
Interested in participating in a Service Project over Spring Break? We are looking for interested students or families to help us plan the perfect trip. The organization we would work with is Hope Sports and the project would take place in Rosarito Mexico (just outside San Diego).
The project would involve building a home for a family in need and it would take just two days! Not only does the build change a families life but it creates a sense of purpose and camaraderie that leads to successful working relationships. You will build an entire home for a family that makes $5/day and lives in extreme conditions. (No building experience necessary).
Most groups come for four days but we can add a day on the beach for surfing if we want. This would be a great thing for entire families to participate in. See attached for an example of what our trip could look like. If you are interested please click here for more details and contact Charlene.email@example.com
Morning Academic Concerns Study Hall Process
Parent and Athlete Reminder
VSSA's second trimester began on Monday, October 31. There is mandatory Tuesday through Friday morning Academic Concerns Study Hall from 10 am - 12:07 pm in the Think Tank. The schedule of VSSA teachers and SSCV Academic Coaches manning these morning study halls is noted below.
REMINDER TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS-UNTIL A STUDENT IS REMOVED FROM THE RED ZONE BY THEIR TEACHER FROM THE OFFICIAL VSSA ACADEMIC CONCERNS LIST THEY MUST REPORT TO THE MORNING ACADEMIC CONCERNS STUDY HALL AS THIS IS THE ONLY LIST ATTENDANCE IS TAKEN FROM. HANDING IN MISSING ASSIGNMENTS (TEACHERS NEED TIME TO GRADE THEM) OR SEEING A GRADE CHANGE ON POWERSCHOOL IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO REMOVE THE STUDENT FROM THE RED ZONE OR RELIEVE THEM OF THEIR OBLIGATION TO ATTEND THE MORNING ACADEMIC CONCERNS STUDY HALL.
Please make sure your child works hard to stay off the academic concerns list altogether. However, if they do end up on the Academic Concerns list, please have them focus on getting off of it well before they reach the week three red zone to avoid the above issues altogether. Please refer to the VSSA Handbook at this LINK for more details.
Tuesday-Ms. Parish, Ms. Suplizio, Ms. Leach
Wednesday-Mr. Groen, Ms. Smith, Ms. Harlan, Mr. Krone
Thursday-Mr. Hopkins, Mr. Martin, Ms. Huck, Mr. Pomeroy
Friday-Mr. Kimmel, Mr. Bennett, Mr. Rippeth, Mr. Stevenson
All VSSA students are welcome to attend these morning study halls for extra help.
Office notes - Attendance
Excused absences include athletic competitions and training, college visits, illness and family emergencies. SSCV coaches are responsible for communicating with VSSA on all excused absences for competitions and training. Parents do not need to contact the school in regards to these absences.
Attendance reminder: When a student-athlete is absent due to something other than an SSCV Excused Absence, parents must notify the school by e-mailing the Office Manager, Gibby at firstname.lastname@example.org VSSA may request a doctor’s note for doctor's appointments or physical therapy appointments or if numerous days are missed due to illness.
Click here for the pre-excused absence form for absences outside of Excused Absences (see above description).
It's election time! Did you know that VSSA would see 1.7 million in building improvements by voting YES on 3B along with smaller class sizes if YES on 3A?
We encourage ALL of our parents to educate themselves on this issue! For more information check it out on the website and Facebook page:
